Rúben Amorim to United is now official. 11M€.

A great manager and a long time Benfica fan. Even as a Sporting manager always respected us. Wish him all the best.

Hope Man Utd fail spectacularly with this appointment.

Only for the guy to move onto a different club immediately and just start stockpiling trophy after trophy.

The running of that club is jokingly bad

There’s a big wage involved in going there but outwith that, I can’t see why any really promising manager, a 39 year old at that would think going there will be a good move.

Best he could do is make sure his wage, his fee for getting sacked is enough for him to retire on.

That club is absolutely poison. Think they have a new majority shareholder making statements, but that was sacking Fergie as ambassador and not allowing him access in the stadium except his seat by some reports. Other reports they asked if some of there players that were going to balon d’or ceremony can jump on Man City’s private chartered flight.

Clubs been a poison chalice with an unlimited budget, now they look to be penny pinching, dont have that budget younger players are too far removed from Man Utd as a juggernaut of a club, up there next to Real Madrid under Ferguson. It’s a thankless career ruining task. And the only temptation to go; well obviously the money, but its the I could get them back to that thought. And they won’t.

Ferguson never learned from the history he alluded to in his autobiography. He talked about how Matt Busby had hung around and that was to the detriment of the team.

Ferguson should have stepped back from any official role and just been a fan, but it does look poor the way the club have gone about it.

I can see them gradually coming back within the next 5 years. They have been making smarter signings in the back ground with the new part owners. Basically stealing that guy from man city, probably the best run club that has an unlimited budget, was a good move. You'll notice this manager was potentially taking over from pep and now stolen..

The signings have been on the younger side aswel instead of the has beens on long expensive contracts. Getting completely rid of ferguson etc imo is a good move. You'd always feel undermined. Talking to people, players etc behind your back when your the boss. * that.

One huge positive. A new manager bounce in time for them to humiliate sevco :56:

    Mon the new manager!

The risk is obviously there but if you trust in your abilities there is possibly no biggest challenge in world football. I think it appeals to him.

When he arrived at Sporting in 2020 they did had not won a league title in 19 years. He won 2 league titles in 4 years (including last season) and Sporting is top of the table in his 5th year. I would say that with Amorim staying they were heavy favourites to win the league again and that would make them league champions twice in a row. The last time Sporting won two consecutive league titles was more than 70 years ago (52/53). They are the smallest of the Big3.

Sometimes you have to take the risk. Sporting also paid 15M€ for him (something completely unheard of for a Portuguese club) and he became the best manager in their history. Let's see if he can make another miracle.

It is just not for the money - he would earn much more in Saudi Arabia like many Portuguese managers (worse than him) went to collect the bag. A couple of clubs triggered his release clause and he rejected the move.

They are a basket case and have been in decline for far too long since AF retired.

That being said, they've never been outside the top half since then, and have secured trophies - just not the Premiership title.

Any manager worth their salt should be jumping at the chance to go there (even despite background ongoings) and aim to be THE guy who wins their first title since AF.

What they need to do is strip it back to basics. STOP spunking multi-millions on basic players (£70od million on Hojlund, £90m on Antony, £80odd million on Harry Maguire, Pogba before than, and whoever else), develop younger players, find a decent style of football and identity and bring in some players with bark and bite other than yelps and squeals.

They're still a MASSIVE draw as a club. Even though I can't stand the *.

Herculean effort from Bournemouth there. City are miles of their usual standard this season. Too many injuries by the looks of it - especially Rodri.

How the * are Nottingham Forest 3rd after 10 games though?!

13 for senior outfield players at city. But * em.
One of the reasons I think Forest are 3rd is that so many teams not at the races. Only 2 teams with 2 points per game. Should be 3 really.
