Brendan Rodgers has given an update on the fitness of Adam Idah after the forward was on the receiving end of a rough tackle against Motherwell last weekend - with the Irishman set to go for a scan.

In the closing stages of Sunday's match, with Celtic already 3-0 up, Idah was fouled by Liam Gordon in the middle of the pitch with a reckless lunge to his ankle.

The Motherwell player was initially given a yellow card, but a VAR review saw it upgraded to a red. The Fir Park side have since decided not to appeal the decision

Despite the return of captain Callum McGregor at Lennoxtown today, Idah missed training.

Speaking on the Irishman's status, Rodgers said: "[Adam] goes for a scan today, so we should find out a little later on how that is.

"It was a nasty knock he took, so we'll see how that is. I can't worry [about it] until I get the results back. I think that it was a poor challenge and thankfully the ground was a little bit wet. So he was able to move. If it'd be a dry pitch it could have been a really bad one.

"He's been able to get a bit more movement in it these last couple of days so we're hopeful that he'll come out of it okay

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers is unsure how long he will be without Adam Idah as the striker awaits scan results on an ankle injury suffered in the win at Motherwell.

Idah went down under a challenge by Motherwell's Liam Gordon late on in the match at Fir Park.

Referee David Dickinson initially booked the 28-year-old before upgrading the yellow card to red after a VAR review.

He goes for a scan today, so we should find out a wee bit later on how that is," Rodgers said ahead of their Premiership game at home to Dundee.

"It was a nasty knock he took. I think that it was a poor challenge and thankfully the ground was a bit wet, so his foot's able to move.

"If it's a dry pitch and his foot sticks in the field, then it can be a really bad one. But he's got a wee bit more movement in it."

Motherwell manager Stuart Kettlewell said after Sunday's match that he thought the red card was "unbelievably harsh" but Rodgers thinks he will have changed his mind after watching it again.

For managers after a game it's sometimes difficult because you're coming in to address your players, there's so many things you're having to look at and then very quickly you're out into your press duty," he said.

"So, yes, sometimes as a manager you don't quite get that true look at it and reflection to it.

"I said afterwards that the player didn't look like he was obviously meant to make the challenge he did, but it's still a poor challenge.

"He was on the stretch, he's off the floor and it's a bad challenge. So, I don't think you can deny that it's not that. So, I think when Stuart sees it again, he will see that as well.

"I respect he has to defend the player, but it's still a poor challenge.

Sounds like he is out for tomorrow which is not a surprise but hopefully he is ok and can make the League Cup semi-final this weekend that would be great.

It gets worse every time I see it yet Kettlewell thinks it's just a booking? Really should have broke his ankle.
    * fail his appeal and end up with a 4 game ban

If that happened to Lennon Miller, he wouldn't be defending it. I hope the big man is ok, and we don't have to use Daizen as the backup striker for a while.

Stupid man. It's the kind of tackle that can sometimes end a season or (in rare cases) a career. I just hope he's out for weeks rather than months.

I'm also annoyed at our medical staff for not getting him off right away in spite of the fact we had no substitutions left to make. Do they not watch the replays or something?

Hopefully wrong but I think we’ll be lucky to see him playing again much before the end of November. This is all the big man needs after a very stop start pre-season. He was just beginning to get back to the way he was last season.

It’s a shocker of a tackle and it looked like there was intent behind it.

100%. Could see at the time in the slow-mo replay. The way the boy moves his foot after missing the ball was intentional.

I'm sure he done Weah or Edouard deliberately late on at McDiarmid. Was clear intent that day as well..

No buying this pish that he didn't mean it or he's no that kinda player..

Kettlewell is full of *, don't care if it's his player, it is what it is. A bad challenge and a red card.

Doesn't sound good. The way Brendan says 'We haven't lost him yet' make me worried.

I think we need another striker in January. We need another clinical finisher badly.

Celtic star Adam Idah will be available for the weekend, Brendan Rodgers has confirmed - despite the Irishman being on the receiving end of a horror challenge in Sunday's win over Motherwell.

The striker made Celtic sweat over his fitness with a scan, having been on the receiving end of Liam Gordon's late tackle at Fir Park at the weekend, which was upgraded from a yellow to red card by referee David Dickinson

Fans may have been fearing the worst when he was left out of Celtic's squad to face Dundee on Wednesday evening, especially with three huge games coming up before the international break in the form of a League Cup semi-final against high-flying Aberdeen, a continental clash against RB Leipzig and a tricky test away at Kilmarnock.

But Rodgers has alleviated any fears of a lengthy spell on the sidelines, stating that the striker will be available for the game against Jimmy Thelin's men at Hampden Park on Saturday evening as Celtic aim to make the final after last year's woes in the tournament
