Richest and leakiest it seems

tbh no manager should stay at a club with where leaks are regular. You have to act in concert if you want to be successful as a club and Brugge does not look like they do that when they have to fire 3 managers in 15 months.

Maybe better for him anyways to get a club that fully supports him without people within the club trying to sabotage his work. Though the state Aberdeen seems to be in atm really doesn't look like a suiting club either

 

Sounds like he might be better off being out of Brugge with the mess they are right now off the field. Every time I read or see interviews with Delia he always comes across as a class act and good guy. Hope he finds himself in a much better environment soon.

 

Its a bit double, his football was attrocious. No drive, no fire. But he talks a good game. Even at Standard it wasnt the best, but their expectations were much lower. And that combined with the toxic environment…

like him, but certainly wouldnt like to ever see him back with us.

 

I only saw your last half dozen or so games so I have a much smaller sample size in terms of what I actually watched of him at Club Brugge. Guy knows how to win though thats for sure and he really comes over as a class act on and off the field.

Mind two of the managers were temps. One got had initial succes but then the team fell away. The other was a stop gap till Deila signed. He was the assistant of Deila and midway through this season he got an offer to another club.

 

His interview last week was epic! He pretty much smeared crap over anyone and everyone connecting to the club or criticising him. I like that side. Still cant get excited by the football he plays.

Strange choice, but wish him luck.

 

In an Abu Dhabi sports bar Ronny Deila watched the television screen with a deep sense of pride.

Not just because his old club Celtic were dismantling Rangers 5000 miles away at Parkhead. But also satisfaction in the guy who was dictating it. When the Norwegian turned up in Glasgow a decade ago to manage the Hoops, a young midfielder on the books was out on loan at Notts County.


Back then, there was even a danger of Callum McGregor failing to make the grade at Parkhead and being discarded by his boyhood club. But Deila, along with assistant John Kennedy, could see something in the teenager. It wasn’t just his footballing ability either. It was his hunger and a willingness to get better

McGregor was brought back into the Celtic fold by Deila and handed his debut against KR Reykjavik in Iceland’s capital. He scored the winner that night in a European qualifier – and the rest is history as far as CalMac is concerned. Back then he looked up to his skipper Scott Brown in midfield. Now HE is Celtic’s leader and captain on and off the pitch




As Deila sat in front of a screen in the Middle East last weekend it was clear to him that Brendan Rodgers’ men are ahead of their Old Firm rivals in just about every department. But he believes one aspect of their current dominance is key. And it’s the fact they’ve got a captain who – after taking over from Brown – bleeds green and white and understands every fabric of the club. From experience, Deila knows that’s crucial in Glasgow. And it’s something Rangers are lacking



McGregor was at his best in the first derby of the season as he scored in the 3-0 victory. As he assessed McGregor’s influence on the Hoops, the Al Wahda boss told MailSport : “It’s so important at the Old Firm – or any club – to have players who know the club and what it means to play there


They know what the club is about, the pressure and how everything works. They have ownership almost. And they become empowered when they feel that connection to the club. Callum has it and there were a few others too when I was there. Kieran Tierney also had it, Anthony Ralston was coming through – he took a similar route to Callum by going on loan. It’s so important to have players like that.



It’s vital for the fans to see Glasgow boys coming through the system at Celtic. It has been a big help to Celtic having Scott for so many years leading the club – then Callum stepping into his shoes. You can’t underestimate how important consistency is. By that, I mean the consistency of players, big players. Celtic have also had it with their staff. Many of the staff who were there with me are still there now.



They’ve also had consistency in their style of play. They’ve picked managers who play offensive football and know the Celtic way. When you do that over time, you develop a good team and a good culture. New players will always come in, of course, to help fill in the gaps. But they learn quickly because there are so many players who know exactly what is expected and required within the club


And someone like Callum can give information to the new players about what Celtic are. That’s helpful and so important.


“I had that with Scott. He took new players and was such a good leader for the club.

“Callum has just taken over that role and he has done it in a fantastic way.

“That has been one of the key things to Celtic’s success.”


Deila has been away from Parkhead for eight years and enjoyed successful stints as a gaffer in Belgium and America before moving to the UAE. Former Rangers and Celtic striker Kenny Miller is his assistant in the Middle East.

After witnessing the Hoops’ convincing victory last weekend, he says Rodgers’ men are a level above their city rivals.


Deila said: “We watched the game in a sports bar over here in Abu Dhabi. This time Rangers tried to have a go by pressing Celtic high up the pitch. Philippe Clement really went for it and the way Rangers played made the game much more exciting to watch. But at the same time Celtic just seem to be on a different level. They’re a better team. Their front players make such a big difference. Because when you go high on them, your defence has a bigger task to stop them. Celtic’s attackers gave Rangers’ defenders such a hard time, especially with their runs into those corridors and the cut-backs from the bye-line. There is a big difference between Celtic and Rangers on that showing”



And that was largely due to McGregor controlling the middle of the park and orchestrating his team-mates around him. The Celtic captain has been a pivotal player for Rodgers in his two spells as manager. But it was Deila who kicked off his Hoops career with that debut in Iceland.


Almost immediately, he felt a young McGregor had what it took to excel at Parkhead. And he’s delighted that Celtic’s midfield general has fulfilled his potential. Deila said: “Together with John, we saw a player in Callum with good technique and an understanding of the game.

“He was an intelligent and ambitious guy He’s been outstanding – and he’s the leader at Celtic now.”
