Is that Marcus Fraser to the right of him too?

If you take the Lisbon Lions out of the equation, how close is CalMac to a greatest ever Celtic XI?

I would always have had McStay and Lambert as the two best centre midfielders I’ve seen in a Celtic jersey, but this lad is battering at the door.

I loved Petrov, Lennon and Broony too, but I’d put McGregor above those three.

    The very one.

I think you’re going to have to wait until the end of his career to try and make the comparisons from a Celtic career POV but for me he is right at the very top with all the names you mention. Just a ridiculous level of consistency, ability, leadership, desire, aura. He has everything.

Because he’s the metronome and the tempo dictator within the mechanics of the side folk forget what he’s actually got in his locker. Because you don’t regularly see it you forget he’s pacy, he can dribble, he’s got lovely vision and he’s a goal threat as well because he can rattle in 30 yarders all day.

All brilliant players but from coming through the academy to captaining the club & being one club men. It has to be McStay & McGregor at the front of that list for me..

Never seen McStay properly, but Lambert is probably my favourite Celtic player I’ve seen and McGregor is right there with him.

I know he gets plenty credit but I still think it’s underestimated how consistent he’s been for the last 7 or 8 years, whilst playing around 60 games a season.

He often stands out as the best player on the park in any game he plays in at any level.

Both him and John Collins are worth a shout to be added to that list. I didn't see the likes of Murdo, Hay and guys before the mid to late 80s, so i guess there will be more from back then that could be added.

Two games without MOR now and our midfield seems to function almost exactly the same. Hatate and McGregor pitch in with the numbers MOR had provided and Bernardo brings the same silky link up play and aggressive pressing Matt did.

This is exactly how it should be with recruitment.

Hoping this is it moving forward.

To quote the manager, "he's pivotal" to how the team play. If you compare this current XI, to the 2016 XI we had when he first took the job, it's night and day - what strikes me the most is how much quicker we are in possession, winning the ball back, and at creating opportunities.

Back then we had Brown as the linchpin, and now we are absolutely seeing the best evolution of Rodger's tactics with McGregor pulling the strings.

This goal threat of McGregor was always there it always part of his game but it has taken years to bring it back out.

    * love to see it. He's on fire right now

Genuinely just everything you could ask for from a captain and a player in general.

Love when you get wee insights at times like the McGowan quotes. He must have felt 10 feet tall even after that short word in the ear.

    Adore the guy.

Celtic skipper, Callum McGregor has been named today as the SPFL Player of the Month for August after a run of sterling opening games for the Hoops.

The captain has been at the heart of Celtic’s winning start to the 2024/25 term, and, following the opening day 4-0 win over Kilmarnock, he was among the goals in the 2-0 win over Hibernian at Easter Road.

It was a scorcher of a strike and that set the tone for similar strikes against St Mirren in Paisley and another against Rangers in the 3-0 derby win as August made way for September
