He cost us less than 1m, hardly going mental wasting money.

And will likely be sold for at least what we paid for him if not a profit.

Quick is 1 word I wouldn't use for Iwata. Not intelligent either when he's standing looking like he's thinking what he's having for his dinner at night before he decides to release the easy ball that's been there for the last 20 secs before getting the ball nicked off him from behind.

Disappointed if we let him go as I really like him.

Must mean Rodgers sees Holm as a better option as a 6

It would appear he's one of those players that gets better the longer he's out the team.

He's the one who signed him. Iwata wasn't starting under Ange either, but he was playing more regularly off the bench. Our midfield trio was McGregor-Hatate-O'Riley. Not easy to displace any of them.

He's an industrious ball-winning DM. Nowhere near as good with the ball as McGregor or another ball-playing DM.

Don't get me wrong, I prefer Angeball to BR's tiki-taka. That ship has sailed though.

Kobayashi was a free and Guchi was about the same as Iwata, and we made our money back on him. These guys are peanuts compared to actual wastes of money like Ajeti and Barkas, Iwata actually contributed last season, over 20 appearances and didn't really do anything wrong, we'll minimum break even on him as well if he's going now.

Not good enough to take us where we want to be in my opinion.

Never been as impressed as some on here have been with him.

Would McCowan be a like-for-like replacement? I consider him more of a box-to-box midfielder rather than a DM. I'd still do it though. BR clearly doesn't rate Iwata.

Average at best. Often caught on the ball and best for him to go elsewhere.

Brown was a far, far better player than Iwata.

We arguably still haven't replaced what Brown brought to the side.

Why is anyone comparing iwata to broony. Not even a close contest. Iwata is steady squad player but not one that wouldn't be a huge loss.

That being said, if he is off then just for depth alone we need a replacement.

I know he signed him. Ange signed a few players who he never really played though. Iwata was one of them. You said he would have been great under Ange, but then you’ve also just said that with a midfield of McGregor, Hatate and O’Riley, it would have been hard to displace them. They were all still here last season though, albeit Hatate was out a fair bit. Iwata has also had his own injury problems however, so not sure how you can reach the conclusion he would have been great under a manger who obviously didn’t feel he was good enough to be a starter for us.
