I can see him pushing for a move he is 27 and in his prime years for a centre midfielder. He had a lot of good attributes but doesn’t really suit how we play given he isn’t the best ball progressing 6. I could see him being very effective in Belgium or Holland in a team playing 2 deeper centre midfielders, one being technical and the other defensive with Iwata filling the second role.

His career has also been in bit odd as he was signed by Ange twice only for him to move on quickly both times. I wouldn’t be surprised if he left tomorrow if we get to Centre midfielders in.

He was seriously underused last season especially in CL, now lack of gametime is catching up to him so chucking him in now & then isn’t going to work.

I like him and think he is the defensive mid we’ve needed in Europe for a while now but clearly Rodgers doesn’t rate him. If Engels comes in can expect he’ll be moved on.

What's the longest run of games he's had starting for us? Can't be many

Played quite a few before the split maybe 5 or 6 games, he looked good in December then got injured in the Feyenoord game, was out for a few months from it.

Anytime I've watched him play he's been efficient if not spectacular. He looks after the ball and normally passes it well. Obviously the manager sees him every day and for some reason appears not to rate him.

If he is heading out the door the rumours of Cullen might have something in them.

We'd probably need 3 CMs if he left. Certainly a CDM.

Has there been any actual reports of him leaving or wanting away, or is it all just fan speculation because he hasn't been making the team?

TOMOKI IWATA faces an uncertain future in the last 36 hours of the transfer window.

Celtic are working hard to bring in midfield duo Arne Engels and Alvyn Sanches.

And their arrival would see Iwata fall further down the pecking order under Brendan Rodgers.

SunSport understands there is interest in the Japanese midfielder from the UK and Europe.

Iwata, 27, hasn't made the Celtic matchday squad for the last two weeks and could seek more game-time elsewhere.

But it's expected that any exit would hinge on the Hoops securing signings before the deadline.

Iwata joined Celtic from Yokohama F.Marinos in January 2023 but has never managed to establish himself as a regula

Probably a nice guy and a good team mate but he wouldn’t be missed on the park if he goes.

A defensive midfielder that can’t defend. For all people say he’s solid, he doesn’t do anything more than what McGregor does defensively, and his use of the ball is very basic at best.

Never more than a water carrier in the middle of the park. Vastly overrated by some fans. We need an upgrade.

I like him, feel he's underrated by most. Maybe just me but I feel like his interceptions are brilliant, the best in the team by a good bit.

Don't have stats to back that up, just what it feels like when watching him.

I feel Iwata is a bit hard done by. He's a solid back up to CalMac but at the same time that means he'll hardly get any minutes due to CalMac's importance to the team. Definitely worth keeping, especially if we get an injury or two he's invaluable to have around.

Not sure, he was important when we had injuries last season.. he's proved he can be effective in there if not dynamic..

Would happily keep him, he's perfect for seeing out games and is low cost.

I might be overreacting here, but I'd rather we not buy a replacement for O'Riley than buying Engels and Iwata getting sold. I want Tomoki to play.

Would be happy with that tbh now we know Engles is coming. Was worried McCowan would be plan b to Engles but would defo take him to replace Iwata.
