Looking at his face on that flight he doesn’t look like a player that’s happy to move it comes across to me he’s doing it ovb as his career needs to move up a gear money wise but I wouldn’t be surprised if we offered the money Brighton offers he’d be happy to stay

Brighton & Hove Albion are close to completing the signing of Matt O’Riley from Celtic.

The 23-year-old midfielder scored 19 goals across all competitions last season for Celtic, winning the club’s player of the year award.

O’Riley is set to become Brighton’s eighth summer signing, following the arrivals of Georginio Rutter, Yankuba Minteh, Mats Wieffer, Amario Cozier-Duberry, Malick Yalcouye, Brajan Gruda and Ibrahim Osman, who has since joined Feyenoord on loan. On Friday, Fenerbahce said they have given permission for Turkey international Ferdi Kadioglu to travel to Brighton for talks over his possible transfer.

O’Riley began his career at Fulham but made just five first-team appearances for the club before joining MK Dons in the summer of 2020.

After scoring 10 goals across a season and a half for MK Dons in League One, O’Riley joined Celtic in January 2022. He has won six trophies for Celtic since his move to Glasgow, including three successive league titles.

O’Riley represented England up to under-21 level but has played two senior matches for Denmark, whom he qualifies to play for through his mother. He was not included in the Denmark squad which competed at the European Championship earlier this summer.

Brighton began their season with a 3-0 win at Everton last weekend.

Brighton is probably the one team I don’t mind in EPL, very good football style and their player trading system & scouting is what we should be following.

One thing is for sure he's going to a team with a boring as * fanbase.

Goal went in there at home vs man United and it was a warm clap at best.

Tourist League, soulless *. They would have been filming the goal in their half and half strip too busy to clap.

They have a 32k seater stadium they can't fill, average attendance is like 27,000. It's all just tv money and player trading, a well-run business but a club like any other.

That was a wrench but we knew way in advance as it was just him seeing out his contract - gave us 7 years before moving on to great things in Europe. Imagine the slevering of the board now at the potential £££££££ he would have brought in if we had him now.

We could fit Brighton’s entire population into Celtic park over 5 games…. Perfect example of a club with way more cash than it could generate from tickets, merchandise and sponsorship… and given a false sense of size and importance by the obscene tv money that gets shared around.

As for ‘biggger’ - fan base probably restricted to South coast England at best while Celtic are truly global..

    gimps indeed
