Starting to think squad player, get rid of a few of the midfield. Him and a main person in, woulda liked Armstrong back but would be hard to fit all in.

Watched that video where he was compared to McGregor and, despite it being short, I think he's someone we should get in.

I get the argument of developing Holm but for me, McCowan is miles ahead of Holm and Holm should have been loaned out for game-time either way.

If Hibs get him then it'd be a massive coup on their end and he'd easily be their best player, where-as for us he'd know he'll be a rotation option, but I definitely wouldn't be against it.

Yes succession planning is the way ahead always. I'm sure we are definitely very interested and we will get him for £1M.

McCowan went to Notre Dame High school in Greenock, so he knows the score here.

    Then for Engels.

Hatate won't be here for ever.

As Mail Sport reported last week, the Parkhead side have also compiled reports on Dundee forward Luke McCowan, but have yet to firm up any interest with Hibs having already tested the Dens Park club’s resolve to keep the 26-year-old

Mccowan is miles ahead because he’s 5 years older. Holm will make a good career for himself, just needs the chance to develop. And if McCowan is going to just be a squad player I’d much rather develop Holm for that role to then hopefully sell on.

we’d never get a good future fee for a 28+ McCowan

Sell O'Riley for 25+. Replace him with Bernardo for 3.5 and McCowan for 1. Peter's wet dream.

That said, I think McCowan would be a useful squad player.

Seriously surprised the sheep, diets and huns haven’t put bids in, at £1M he is a bargain and would improve all of their midfields straight away. I’d take him as a squad player and counts for our CL home grown quota.

The more I think about this one the more keen on it I am. Engels and McCowan in would be excellent business on the face of it.

Think for whatever reason we are waiting on the MOR domino falling when we have all the cash we do in do wonder why.

But let's dream say matt does go and add that to what we have sold already and get the £28m we apparently want thats £47m or there abouts we will have taken in since abada left might get mikey and 1 or 2 others sold.

    Bernardo £3.5
    Sinisalo £1m
    Idah £8.5m
    Engles £8.5m
    Sanchez £4.5m
    O'shea £8.5m
    Beck £3m
    Schlupp £2m

Thats £39.5m spent and £47m brought in and thats a significantly stronger squad!

I don't really get it. He'll be close to his ability ceiling at 26 (turning 27 this year) and he's not exactly special as it is. Seems a bit of a Scott Wright signing.

As far as association trained players go, who do we get that's better? He may not be the best option in general, but he's likely the best option we can get for the association trained criteria. And for a squad player I can live with that.

We simply don't need any more squad players, 1st teamers only - and this guy is not that.

So we don't bother with a 25 man squad for the CL? We just go with fewer players and hope the B list can step up?

No, the new first teamers displace current first teamers and they then become squad players.
    In theory at least.
I know we need homegrown in there too for UCL so that's fair point - we probably should have considered before we signed all the foreign squad players like Holm, Kwon, Iwata, Yang, Tillio, etc that we don't seem to be able to move on.
If most of them get cleared out, then McCowan makes more sense.
