I have no idea what influence he has now compared to then and never claim to, it's others that claim he was in charge of everything when he was CEO, but somehow he's still responsible for literally everything as chairman and we have a new CEO, when they don't have a scooby either.

I just didn't delude myself that he was ever going anywhere, so I've never been raging that he was 'allowed to come back' like some people seem to wind themselves up over again and again, he was never gone.

Lawwell has no small number of shares in the club which he managed to finagle to himself as a result of his self issued pay awards and bonuses down the years. He is absolutely in charge of everything that goes on at the club and everyone else is simply a yes man. Dermott Desmond's clout is overrated. He looks on Celtic as a plaything and all of the board members are more concerned with self interest than the actual football.

See this, this right here... This shows you the discontent that has arisen. Even the most chilled and diplomatic users on here are about to blow.

Shelby is probably the most balanced bloke (is he a bloke, who knows) on here.

Ive been rambling and ranting on these boards for years, when Shelby starts writing * in capitals... Offt.

Its like watching smurfette pull a glock 9 out from in-between her *, cocking it and saying "* this!".

Well, if you'd have read it right I actually said "you all", but if facts make you chuckle then I'm glad to have made you smile.

You can't flip any of my "argument" around. Lawwell was in head charge of footballing affairs, and overstepped the mark as a defacto DOF. When he stepped down from his role as CEO, he wasn't sitting warming his saggy baws on his heated driveway.....

Everyone can moan about the lack of spending and vision (quite rightly at times), but the thing is, and not to actually stick up for Lawwell, but you can see why he actually went and attacked that James Forrest scudbook. It's the same in here, outside in the real world or wherever.......as soon as something happens (or lack of activity) the first response from the hoardes is "aw it's aw * Peter Lawwell's fault!!!!!"

If it's Lawwell's fault for us having very little vision for signings or being * in Europe, then it must be Peter Lawwell's fault that we are the most successful team domestically this side of the Millenium, Peter Lawwell's fault for signing * like Edouard for £9m, Jullien for £7m etc etc...

    I am indeed a bloke :BR1:

But aye. Think I'm just sick of the same * every year. Just can't fathom what's going on and the frustration as a fan is that you can't directly impact things to the level you'd like to.

    No they are not.
As for DD clout being “overrated”.. that is the dumbest claim Ive read in a long time, and the bar on that is very high.

Why do folk just make up *, then you get gimps liking and repeating the myth.

It's possible, and likely, that both these takes are correct. Yes we have been the most successful team domestically since he was appointed and yes we have been a mixture of bang average to woeful in Europe. The question is what influence he has had on this. Domestically the biggest factor was the demise of our nearest rivals in 2012 which has given us a free run at the CL wealth for over a decade. That wasn't good financial prudence. It was luck. The club has adopted a strict wage structure (not for board members though) and transfer policy which has had some success but also some abject disasters. Again, weakened opposition meant that for the most part we have been able to dominate successfully. Despite one of the healthiest bank balances in Europe we have never shown the ambition to get out of the group stages in CL and that is squarely down to the board and Lawwell. Even last season we went into the start of the season with an inexperienced team that cost us in European matches.

So Lawwell can be given some credit for steering the ship domestically, though with a lot of luck and a bankers eye rather than a football one, and he can also be slates for the absolute lack of ambition and foresight to improve our standing in Europe.

I’ll try another way. Do you think it was just a coincidence that the relationship between fans and board improved significantly when he squirmed away from his role as CEO? Do you think it was a coincidence that we started doing business in the transfer window better when he was no longer in the CEO position?
