It 's the end of an era at the Girondins de Bordeaux. According to our information, the club has informed the French Football Federation (FFF) that it intends to abandon its professional status, obtained in 1937. And this even if it were to be miraculously authorized to play in the National next season. A hearing before the DNCG League (therefore professional) was scheduled for August 1st, it was canceled

The third division, to which Bordeaux was administratively demoted by the DNCG, is in fact "hybrid" because it is made up of some * clubs and others professional. When a club is relegated, it loses this professional status by default but can request an exemption to keep it for two seasons. Sochaux, for example, followed this path last season after its relegation

This is therefore not Bordeaux's plan, which is obliged to considerably reduce its payroll since it no longer has the means to cover it. It amounted to 36 million euros charged last season, including 25 million just for the players and staff of the first team. As of June 30, the club had a net loss of 40 million euros.

The abandonment of the pro status will result in the automatic termination of all player contracts. It will also cause the loss of the accreditation of the training center, which brings together 70 youngsters, about half of whom are housed on site. All will be released and the Girondins will not be able to recover compensation on possible future transfers.

The outcome would have been the same in the case of a commitment in National 2 (* level). But the club took the lead because in the event of a (improbable) commitment in N1, it would have had to negotiate by mutual agreement with all the players for an early release , which could have taken time and cost money

However, time is running out until the season kicks off on the weekend of August 17. And above all, Bordeaux has no more money. It will appear before the commercial court on Tuesday to request the opening of a judicial recovery procedure that will freeze all debts (around 90 million euros).
Without professional players, the need for cash to be brought in decreases significantly. The president-owner Gérard Lopez will still have to guarantee before the commercial court that he has the means to allow the company to continue its activity, in particular the payment of the salaries of administrative employees. These should quickly undergo a very large-scale social plan

If the receivership is approved by the court, the club will have to quickly present a budget for next season (N1 or N2) to the federal DNCG in the following days. It will then be necessary to very quickly build a squad composed of players under federal contracts.

was it not only 16 or 17 years ago they were in the CL Quarterfinals, plus they have always seemed to bring good players out of their academy that they sell for a huge profit and never seem to spend much so where did all the money go

From what I have read allowing organizations to own multiple teams in different leagues has become a big problem for teams in France and played a big part in this incredible fall for one of the bigger names historically in French football.
