If its takes this long for a player we had on loan imagine new player negotiations haha.
    It's going to be disappointing!.
    Glad it's finally done though.

I see him more as a potential long-term replacement for McGregor. I think that role would suit his skill set better. I think the most important attributes in that role are awareness and reading of the game; it's why I think Iwata is terrible in it. Bernardo has that in spades, though.

It's basically AUGUST, and more than a few are relieved that we are making moves to stand still as a squad.

Replaced a keeper with a near identical profile.

Signed a keeper not a ready for the jersey

Trying to sign back 2 loanees from last season.

Lb, CB, DMC, wingers, strikers.... Nada.

I'll be pleased to see Bernardo back... But this window is shaping up to be our worst in recent memory.

He’s kind of half way between both roles. Similar to O’Riley though in that they are both relentless pressers out of possession. Something that isn’t really credited to either of them much.

Celtic are hoping to seal a permanent deal for Paulo Bernardo before Thursday with the midfielder in Glasgow for medical tests as a deal worth less than £4 million edges closer

One of the key players during Celtic’s latest Scottish Premiership title-winning campaign in 2023/24, speculation regarding a return to Parkhead for Paulo Bernardo has rumbled on throughout the first two months of the summer window

Now, just four days before they kick off their latest title defence with a home clash against Kilmarnock, The Hoops appear to have made a breakthrough in discussions with Benfica.

HITC understands that Bernardo is already in Glasgow. He has already completed the first part of his medical too. A permanent deal is expected to cost less than the £4 million fee put forward via some sections of the media.

Celtic are also hoping to announce Bernardo’s full-time return in the coming hours, before the close of play on Wednesday

While not quite one of the first names on Brendan Rodgers‘ team sheet last term, the versatile midfielder did prove to be a very useful member of the Hoops squad.

He featured 33 times across all competitions. A fierce striker of the ball, Bernardo also scored four times with his highlight moment coming in the Old Firm derby in late-December.

The Portugal Under 21 international thrashed home a thumping strike to help see of Rangers’ 2-1, setting Celtic on their way to yet another league triumph.

He’s such a mature player for a young player,” Rodgers said of Bernardo. “He’s always had a great attitude at training. He’s played in a lot of big games.

“He (has) a wee bit of everything. (He can) put his foot in. He passed the ball and made runs into the box.”

HITC reported earlier in the summer that Benfica wanted around £5 million.

Celtic appear set to seal a deal for over £1 million less, however, for the Jorge Mendes-represented midfielder.

Brendan Rodgers hopes to conclude the permanent move for Paulo Bernardo in "a matter or hours".

The midfielder has undergone his medical this week ahead of his £3million switch after a positive loan from Benfica last season. And Rodgers has finally confirmed the deal is all but done and is just to be rubber-stamped

Hopefully it's a matter of hours, he's due to have a medical so hopefully all goes well with that," he told Sky Sports

Well, I suppose if I'm serious about forgiving him (and he genuinely has earned that), I have to get out of the habit of taking everything he says with a pinch of salt. So here goes (for the first time since 2019): if Rodgers is saying that, then I'll take him at his word. Welcome back to Celtic, Paolo Bernardo.

While we're at it, I know that "most do" is clearly a typo for "must do"; but it isn't half appropriate given how many times this deal has been "done" over the last month.

If you look at the guys who will be a certainty for champions league with home grown qouta etc Inc idah and bernanrdo we have space for 3. So that's all we will sign. Another 3. Unless we get another home grown as a signing then we can get 4.

Sometimes folk can be accused of romanticising a player and suggesting they had a bigger impact than what they did.

Folk on here are doing the opposite and playing down what he brought to the table for us. He was a crucial part of our puzzle last year make no mistake of it.

Think he is a good player, physical, drives forward and can be even better with a year of development

His drive in the cup final. His goal against Rangers at parkhead. His performances in general. Good dig, composure on the ball and good range of passing. Great technique. Massive room for getting better at all these things. He will be hige for us. Absolutely huge. Now let’s get a LB and a ST sorted out ffs!!!!
