Definitely want Taylor to stay but I also want to upgrade on him, if he can.

Preferably with someone we can purchase and not just a loan.

Good to see he's got a new deal but like everyone else I'd want someone quality in to get some real competition for the LB spot. With the best will in the world I just don't see Frame or the other youngster (Anderson?) pushing GT for the spot this season.

    I’m a fan of GT

But competition is good for everyone, so we definitely need another LB.

I’d actually fancy GT to find another level and end up still being first choice.

    Competition is good.

Unless he can grow a few inches and increase his speed by another 75% then I fail to see how he can raise his game to another level.

He’s a tidy player and intelligent. But his physical limitations are just too obvious.

For someone who gets relentlessly targeted by opponents, he generally stands up really well defensively. I think those glaring occasions where he gets caught up field and a winger blows by him make it seem like he's more of a liability than he actually is.

Having said that, of course we need to bring in competition for him, because he simply doesn't have any. I think whoever was brought in, Greg's still going to play a big role because he's become a key member of the team, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't be aiming to upgrade.

Watching recent friendlies, still backs off attackers far too much without tackling and not strong enough physically.
    Back up only.

Greg needs a move in all honesty to a team who wants him to play left back only, he’d be brilliant in that role. He gets caught out with us being asked to attack so much and not having the pace to get back when we lose it.

he was brilliant last night though

I didn't see the man city or DC game so can't comment on them. Last night he was up against a guy that was rapid, and quite a lot of times was left one on one with him. There's no really much he can do other than back off a bit and show him down the outside, and I thought he did that fairly well.

Some of the positions he took up when we had possession was excellent, as was his passing. All in all, I thought he had a good game.

He's too easily shrugged off the ball, at times looks out of his depth, we need an upgrade in that position it's clear for all to see.

Give Anderson the slot and see if he can cope. Won't be much worse than taylor

The selfless running he was doing today to create space for everybody was incredible by the way. Shouldnt be overlooked

I think it’ll be harder to upgrade on him than many think personally. Bringing in a more attacking full back might be easy enough but to replace him from the offset will be extremely difficult because he’s a much better and more important player than most would have you believe.

He's no good enough mate. One decent game isn't going to change the fact we need upgrades on the left side of defence.

Both him and Scales were excellent today but that does not erase the last 12 months.

Think about the player he replaced 5 years ago.

He's not good enough. Able squad player but if we want to progress in Europe we need an upgrade.

I think he took his game to a new level under Ange, but seemed to have dipped off that level since Rodgers has returned.
I would want to keep him if we brought in a new left back and hopefully he would be willing to stay and rotate/fill in.

Agree with most of that but point still stands, it won’t be easy to upgrade on him and the person we do buy won’t walk into the side either.

Underrated and to improve will need to spend proper cash.

    Not necessarily.

Johnston cost us £3.5m. Juranovic was £2.5m.

Both are better full backs. Now left backs may command a slightly higher fee but it won’t be silly money if we are smart and do our scouting (no sniggering).

Thought he was class today, he made the first goal with his run to create the space and then win it back and it’s like having an extra centre mid at times. As others say he will be hard to replace in terms of how the system relies on his movement and workrate.

He was very good today, on the ball and off it, and I do agree he's not as bad as some think but this still doesn't change the fact we really need better quality in that position hence why most people have been flagging the left back area up for a long time. Same applies to Scales who himself had an excellent game.
