Demonstrably incorrect in a financial context, which is what the guy meant.

I feel like almost everyone hasn't bothered to read the OP's original point.

It was talking about Financials, not in terms of on the pitch ability.

The level of writing and overall quality of that site and the Celtic Blog is embarrassing.

Off the park we are miles and miles ahead of rest of Scottish football.

On the park we are number 1 but nowhere near as far ahead as we could or should be.

If we pushed out the boat a bit the huns have 2 choices they can either try match us but * it up even slightly and they are out the game again or accept they can't match us and yes they fall down a level closer to the Hearts of this world

    We are, our biggest enemy.

Don't let complacency rob you of your potential. Keep pushing forward.

Ok, fair play to op - let's take just the financials and spending.

Rangers spent broadly as much as we did on players and have higher wage bill overall.
That's a world away from Hearts and at least a match for us.
They spend everything they have on the players, unlike us.

We have a totally meaningless mountain of cash in the bank.
Meaningless of course until we actually use it.

But if comparing money in the bank only, we are indeed very far ahead of Rangers - for now.

I did one better and actually listened to the podcast. It was purely financial talk given who he (David Low) is, finance director for wee Fergus back in the day.

Lots of interesting stuff on the podcast, only caught the first 20 mins or so, will finish it next time I'm out driving.

The financial gulf between celtic and rangers will grow as long as celtic qualify for the champions league more than rangers. This is the biggest variable by far. So yes, as long as celtic continue to qualify and rangers don't, then the revenue disparity between the clubs will become wider to a point than the gulf is greater than between rangers and hearts.

But what that actually means in any practical football sense is hard to conclude on when we have no intention of investing even half that money into the first team. Balance sheet vs balance sheet, last season could be seen as a 55m swing between the clubs by one team guaranteeing CL revenue and one team likely not getting it. In that context we are only a bad season from them catching up and two bad seasons away from them overtaking.

The OP is what it is, but it was only a small part in what is a wider discussion on our financial situation as a whole. Context is key.

It was a very good listen, actually. Im not a huge fan of David Low, even though he was a huge part of the club being saved in 1994.

Goes into a lot of the problems we face as a club, behind the scenes. The board essentially not doing enough to find these ‘ghost shareholders’ who are probably unaware that family members who have passed owned shares and it’s never been found or passed on. He thinks that ‘ghost shareholders’ make up about 20% of the total shares. That’s * crazy.

So, while Desmond has just under 40%, he essentially has a controlling stake, without having a controlling stake because the ‘ghost shareholders’ don’t vote. So, unofficially, he owns 50% of the club. It’s crazy when you think about it. He can put whoever he wants in charge and there is little pushback.

He said that, with the current share price at 165p, the club would be worth somewhere in the region of £220m, when you add up the value of all the shares. Rangers are worth around £25m. So we are worth nearly 9 times they are. He makes some compelling arguments as to why that’s not a good thing, why we need to be better and why we need to do more with the money.

Was a good listen. Just over 80 minutes long.

The financial disparity is because we planned out ahead about 20 years out and we "planned the dive, and dived the plan" by setting up correct infrastructure, and by progressing through several very difficult stages to get to the point where everything at the club was in good order and we could get value for our players or tell.others to * off! We all remember selling assets we all knew were worth far more, but getting 300-400% profit to backfill costs and bankroll changes...

The Huns keep spending money they've never earned, and trying to demand inflated prices they're not entitled to, just because they think the world owes them something... That's why their costs are out of control, their debts untenable and they can't apply any sensible leverage on buyers. With that in effect they can't position themselves to get the best projects/youths in as their agents see right through them...

They want to be us, without doing the work... Like getting a gym membership, but not doing the workouts, and wondering why you're the only one not getting leaner and buffing up!

    * the Huns! We owe them nothing, and shouldn't even be watching them in our rearview mirror as they disappear over the horizon behind us...

The worst(best) is yet to come from them . With their finances , playing squad , stadium issues and lack of income from anywhere they could well be operating at a level of Hearts . Don’t think I have seen them in this sort of a mess for 10 years . They made an absolute royal mess of handling their on park “assets” and this summer has seen them needing to sell before spending (with nobody to sell ) . Think this season will be beyond them by October , providing we have a busy couple of week which I’m sure we will .

As we saw under Lenny in COVID season, we're only a couple of bad transfer windows away from them. Our academy isn't producing starting XI quality players at the moment either, which is worrying.
