There’s a clause in his contract. Once it’s activated, we can play him off as a new signing again. Great forward planning by the board :57:

I'll balance things with some scepticism

Hope he's better than the last keeper that Brendan worked with before that he signed for us....

I do think this is a good one for us though

If he has the same impact as Hart did, we're * laughing.

Always rated Schmeichel, but I wish he was here earlier in his career.

The Celtic players are looking forward to welcoming new goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel to the squad after the Danish internationalist signed on at the club on a one-year deal.

Speaking from their base in Washington DC where the first team are on a pre-season tour of the USA, the Champions were looking forward to the new arrival.

Greg Taylor said: “It’s a massive signing for us. Joe Hart was a great servant to the club and a great guy to have around the place so hopefully that’s what we’ve got again.

“Playing in the Euros for Denmark you saw that Kasper’s a real leader and we’re delighted have him.

James Forrest added: “I’ve never met him but the gaffer’s had him at Leicester before and obviously Joe has spoken about him a few times and spoken very highly of him, so everyone is looking forward to meeting him and playing alongside him.

Kasper Schmeichel becomes the second goalkeeper signing of the summer after the capture of Viljami Sinisalo from Aston Villa, and the Dane is due to meet up with his new team-mates Stateside as they prepare for matches against DC United, Manchester City and Chelsea.

Defender, Liam Scales reckons Celtic have got the perfect replacement for Joe Hart, who retired from the game after three successful seasons at the club.

The Irishman said: “If you could go and get a like for like, he’s the one. You’re losing out on an internationalist and a Premier League winner but then you’re getting another one in so we’re really looking forward to greeting him and playing with him.”

Anthony Ralston was equally excited to welcome Celtic’s new No.1. The Hoops full-back said: “He’ll be a great addition to the team.

“Obviously everybody loved Joe and he did amazing things for the club, so to have Kasper in now he’ll be a great addition to the squad and we wish him all the best.”

It's not a question as to whether he can do it, it's just for how long. Got my fingers crossed we get at least a good season out of him and that the new younger lad gets a run out in some easy home/cup games to develop in the meantime.

While Celtic supporters got their first glimpse of one of the club’s new goalkeepers in action, when Viljami Sinisalo played the second-half of the 4-0 victory over DC United, the other new goalkeeping arrival was an interested spectator in the Audi Field stadium.

Kasper Schmeichel has joined the Scottish Champions on a one-year deal, linking up again with Brendan Rodgers, having previously worked with the manager at Leicester City.

The vastly experienced Danish internationalist has flown out to the United States to join up with his new team-mates, and having watched them in action, he can’t wait to start training and playing.

Speaking exclusively to Celtic TV, Kasper Schmeichel said: “I feel great. It’s been a long journey but it feels good to be here. I’m really happy.

“I spoke to Joe Hart many times during the time he was here and leading up to his retirement and he only had good things to say.

“Obviously I started following Celtic as a club when he joined and saw the admiration the fans had for him and he got an incredible send-off and fully deserved, so they’re big shoes to fill.

As well as getting his first glimpse of his new team-mates in action, Schmeichel also met some of the many Celtic supporters who were at Audi Field to cheer on the Hoops.

“I played in Scotland many years ago and I know the size of Celtic,” he said, “but I’ve come off holiday and there were Celtic fans at the hotel that I was staying at.

'And even when I flew there were Celtic fans on the plane on the way to watch this game so it’s incredible to see, but it just goes to show the size of the club.'

Having beaten MLS side, DC United 4-0, thanks to goals from James Forrest, Mikey Johnston and a double from Schmeichel’s fellow Dane, Matt O’Riley, Celtic now face two matches against English Premier League opposition in Manchester City and Chelsea.

It’s all in preparation for the forthcoming season, with Brendan Rodgers’ side aiming for another successful domestic campaign and another European adventure in the revamped UEFA Champions League.

Kasper Schmeichel is looking forward to playing his part in the challenges ahead, and he’s clear on his objectives as a Celtic player.

“Trophies!” he said. “It’s what football is about.

“Football is about winning and coming to a club with such a rich history of winning, a culture of draws aren’t enough, the only thing that matters is winning.

“That’s one thing I really love about this club is that’s the mentality – you have to go out and win every competition that you’re in, so I can’t wait to get back playing football again.”
