I highly, highly doubt that any club would accept a offer (before) the nation the player represent are knocked out of the tournament. I know they are now but not when they "accepted" the offer.

Him pulling of great saves in the knockout stages could literally double what they could get for him, so i call this BS.

Same rumours going about a year ago and he signed for another club. Why would we sign him now that he's very likely more expensive? Makes no sense. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have him here, but he's probably on 40k+ where he is and our club will never pay that out for a keeper, not a chance.

 

He’s probably less expensive now, last summer he was fresh from an unbelievable showing for Croatia in the World Cup.

 

Players going to the Euros know they are putting themselves in the shop window. They don't want to sign up prior to the competition.

You’re spot on though, tournaments are awful for discovering talent, but you can get an idea of big game mentality for guys you’re keeping an eye on. Comes with the downside of if they have 3/4 belter of performances, they’re sky high price wise.

I’m gutted O’Riley missed out both due to that and the fact he missed out, will make him want to leave more than before, and I was 99% sure he’s going this year already.

But only reason he didn’t is the league he’s in.
