Thanks John :50:, i often see Jays when i'm out walking in Hazelwood, but usually just a fleeting glimpse, they're very skittish birds, you'd be lucky to get within 50 feet of one before it's up and gone, i knew if i was to get a decent shot i'd have to use my wee hide and thankfully after not too long after i left a few peanuts on the stump Mr Jay (or Mrs) appeared, had its fill, flew up onto an adjacent tree for a minute and disappeared back into the woods.
Best of luck in your search John, they're really a bird worth spotting :50:

Could be softening it up KRS. My daughter and I watched a Carrion Crow dip a piece of hard bread into water to soften it up before eating it. Corvids, which a Magpie is, are very, very clever.

'Merlin Bird ID helps you identify birds you see and hear. Merlin is unlike any other bird app—it's powered by eBird, the world's largest database of bird sightings, sounds, and photos.'

    Good day to everyone!
Just thought I would share something which may be helpful or interesting.
My cousin visited me this year and he is into nature. He was using an app on his phone which could identify any plant if you zoomed in on it. I've also found the above app which can identify birds by sound.
Would be great for someone like me who doesnt know a perelgrine from a sparrowhawk. Not sure if any of youve tried it out but it might be a nice thing for us to do this summer and get out and about.

I've been using Merlin almost daily since the start of the year, it's a fantastic tool to have if you want to learn the various birdsong you hear, i'd recommend it no matter what stage of birding you're at :50:.

This morning on my local patch i was pleased to see a hunting female Kestrel, a species which is declining in most of its range in these isles. Also noted 2 singing Whitethroats and an unidentified mammal that i caught with the corner of my eye, think but only think it was a Weasel dashing over the country lane:31::56:

Just found out that very recently some evil scumbag man attacked one of our local seals in Llandudno North Wales with rocks, it has caused an outrage and police and locals are trying track him down. He hit the poor animal's flipper with one of the rocks and the animal was highly stressed getting away from the piece of *. The man was actually on the beach which is protected for seals to land and breed.

I hate people that are evil to animals , drowning is too good for this horrible excuse of a being, had i seen it, wow maybe just as well i did not. It is so upsetting when hearing about this.

These people are * Good Friend. A public hanging in the local town square is what they deserve.

Already some birds are on the move from their breeding grounds, early this morning on my local patch with Ruby Roo of course my Good Friend would have been pleased with the lovely sound of 10 Black Headed Gulls flying past overhead.

I also got good views of a singing Lesser Whitethroat and also of a singing Common Whitethroat. I have not seen an owl or a cool mammal for a wee while and so i hope to put that right soon.

Took this one recently on a trip to the far north of Iceland… just above the Arctic Circle…

    Tricky buggers to capture….

The other is a par of walrus on a small iceberg jjust off NW Spitsbergen , around 600 miles from the North Pole. They were a long way off and my 400mm lens was even at its limit trying to get them.
