If Rodgers sees him as a priority signing, Frimpong's sell on alone would cover it.

We could still make a profit on him, if he is developed successfully.

I don't think using Goldson and Tavernier as examples of us paying more is a good argument, the huns are struggling to shift both due to this and it's a big reason they're currently going for free transfers.

Not saying we shouldn't be increasing our overall wage structure, we should, but £25k for a player who isn't guaranteed to be first choice is a bit much, especially if we're paying close to the reported £6 million fee.

Obviously if Rodgers wants him, then we should get him in, as I'd be hoping we fully back him regardless of who we're targeting.

I like Bernardo, but there are far better midfielders out there, at that price I'd just be asking Bodo the question on Gronbaek even if it's a couple million more.

The Huns are over paying them by some * distance though, no? They make more than O’Riley and CCV, I’m sure.

On the wage, he signed a 4 year, €30,000 per week deal 2 years ago. Meaning he has another 2 years on his deal. He’s not exactly covered himself in glory here and I don’t see a list of teams queuing up to sign him for £3.5m. It’s likely we have offered him a 4/5 year deal, probably about the £20k a week mark. That’s a £4m/£5m deal alone before bonuses.

You want a deal on the wages of the big guys in the team, you need to earn it and he’s not earned it in any way whatsoever. I back the club on this particular case. Let him see out his contract at Benfica and move to Estoril on £5k a week after his deal ends. He’s the man who will regret it. There will be far bette options out there for £3.5m if we get our act together and get properly scouting.

The point is our wage cap is a disgrace in this day and age. How many players are we paying £20k per week or more?

We will never improve if we don’t stretch it. Like the transfer fees we’re willing to shell out, we’re stuck in 2005.

On Gronbaek, he may well be better but isn’t he another who will have the likes of Benfica or a Bundesliga club willing to pay him £30k+ a week?

The huns are probably paying them the going rate in today’s money. Players as important to us as MOR and CCV should be on £30k+. If we want to keep these guys we need to pay them their worth.

I’m not saying Bernardo should be one of our highest paid players in general, but if he’s making more at Benfica and we are actively trying to sign him, why should he accept a wage drop? It makes no sense.

Do you genuinely believe Goldson and Tavernier are worth £35k a week? You believe that’s the going rate for two serial losers who are absolutely rank rotten? We both know you don't believe they are worth that sort of money. We have players on similar money to them(maybe slightly less) but are absolutely valued members of the first team who we will get huge money for if and when we sell them. Rangers seem to be struggling to get rid of both.

People just want us to throw money at players because we can. We have a wage structure in place currently, which seems to have been slightly upgraded with players like McGregor, Kyogo, CCV, O’Riley and Hatate moving onto £30k+ per week. Is Bernardo worth the same money as these guys? Is he *. That being said, we all know the wage structure needs to be better. You don’t do that for someone like Bernardo, though. You offer someone £40k a week when they've been excelling and I'd have happily broken the wage structure to sign someone like CCV or Jota. Bernardo is nowhere near that level. He might become a vital part of our first team but there's nothing to suggest he will.

As I said before, his weekly wage might be less but the terms of his contract will be worth far more, overall, with a guaranteed income over the next 4/5 years. He has 2 years left on his deal, worth about £1.2m a year. He’s getting offered slightly less a year but with a longer term contract so the contract is worth far more. You come in and earn a higher contract, we’ve already shown that we will pay people a higher wage when they come in and play well. Take your £20k a week, earn you position and your new contract and get a longer term deal on more money. The contract we are offering him is worth far more than the contract he currently has. It's on the table, guaranteed. He could snap his leg next week, be out for a year, barely play a year later and end up in the Portuguese doldrums on less than £5k a week. It's not a risk to us to turn down that sort of contract, it's a risk for him. We have missed out on far better players than Bernardo for penny pinching and we will miss out on far better players in the future for the same reason.

I think players salaries will go down, UEFA have their 80% (70% next season) of income on salaries, agent fees and transfer fees next season I believe. We will have to follow those rules and I can see us and many other clubs being cautious. Even in England I can see teams being cautious after Everton and Nottingham Forest were punished. Given Forest's was partly based on a season in the championship I could see a knock on effect for championship salaries.

Some players definitely need to be on 40kpw to keep them and hold their value. I think we do need to be careful though.

He shouldn't accept a pay drop, maybe if he had 1 year left and by losing the first year he gets guaranteed 4 year contract post that then fine. But he has 3 years left so anybody expecting a pay drop being accepted is delusional.

We’ve know for a while Hart was going and yet we still don’t have a keeper in.

anyone actually believe we will be signing a keeper that’s went to the Euros?

I will be honest if we’ve not got someone in by the end of the month I wouldn’t be happy.

    * the bed! Online sources saying we’ve had a 7.6 million bid accepted for the Croatia keeper!!!! Thank * I’m wrong ha ha

It took us 18 months to appoint a DoF or whatever title you want to give it by sheer coincidence he happened to be our chairman's son.

We've needed a LB for * knows how long and still no sign of one.

We're a rudderless ship at the moment relying on the manager for transfers again it seems. We hit lucky with Ange and it now appears to be the model. We were after a DoF alongside Ange as well remember thats the reason the Howe deal collapsed.

The Euros cant be an excuse considering we signed AJ literally during the world cup

Probably not paying full whack but surely if we were paying say 50% some * at the club most have been able to do this math and work out his full wages.

I said it last year as well but BR is notoriously slow in the transfer market.

And before folk say Ange being quick in the transfer market is a myth. We could be pretty quick at signing players under Lennon too.

That could be attributed to him wanting a better quality of player. Whereas with Lennon we may have signed players quicker but we did sign a lot of * under him as well.

The issues with our recruitment go above and beyond the manager, anyway.

Its up to Peter who signs for the club, stays at the club and who leaves the club, not expecting anything different from the past few transfer windows.
