I do think it was respectful that he didn't go wild after saving the penalty. The young Aberdeen player would have felt bad enough as it was.

Hindsight. Don’t say you didn’t have your head in your hands when Iwata stepped up.

    For once, he's right.

Not one person in the section I was sitting yesterday was saying anything that amounted to them being happy with Joe taking the penalty.

It was a mix of disbelief and wondering what the actual * was HE doing taking the potential winning penalty....

Him taking it was out of sheer vanity - and if it was agreed prior to the game he was to take the winning penalty, then shame on them for putting one player ahead of the team..

Joe Hart has always been a total team player since day 1 here so I don't get the point about vanity. I'd have no problem with him hitting another penalty as long as he scores the next time.

There are keepers out there who do take penalties in shoot out situations however, I can't ever remember Joe Hart ever taking one. I might be wrong and I'm sure there's someone out there who knows. My final word on the matter is that it doesn't say much about those outfied players who were either not chosen to take one or just shat it from taking one

As I said, we were getting down to the dregs. I had my head in my hands when Iwata stepped up. Fair play to him for tucking it away though.

Taking hindsight away, Joe Hart has mentality and bottle which is just as important as technique for a penalty in my view.

The folk around me at the game thought he would do an Ederson so fair play.

For me it’s more the attitude that he deserves his chance at a big moment, just because he’s performed well as a keeper for us.

I see patter like that all the time. I remember Scott Brown getting a full season with us when he was clearly finished because, “he deserved his chance at the 10”.

I hate that pub team sentimentality pish.

    There’s a misunderstanding here.

AJ, Iwata and Scales merit it every day by demonstrating they are cleaner strikers of the ball and far more comfortable striking the ball. That’s like saying why should AJ merit it over me and you.

The fact two of them stepped up and slotted home expert penalties while Hart smashed a wild one off target surely confirms what we already knew.

I don’t think Hart was prime Zidane through the week taking his penalties because he wouldn’t have suddenly looked uncomfortable and smashed it where everybody else used good technique to convert.

I love Joe, but something went wrong that he was taking a penalty in such crucial circumstances. We don’t need mental gymnastics to try and explain it, let’s just give a bit of very due stick and move on?

What a load of utter pish. If Hart had scored his penalty this isn't even a conversation. Apart from the one that was cleared off the line I thought he had a good game and should get no stick at all. Better players than Joe Hart have missed penalties in a shoot out.

I stand corrected m8. Wish he would have just leathered that penalty he took yesterday the same way he did in that clip as it would have saved my * from collapsing

No issue with Hart taking the penalty. I remember some YouTube video of him having a shootout with Ben Foster and he was striking the ball really cleanly. Obviously that's very different from an actual pressurised match situation, however it's not like he was taking one instead of Mooy or Juranovic; he took it ahead of AJ and Iwata, neither of whom strike me as natural penalty takers (despite them burying their chances).

What a load of *. He’s never a penalty taker in his life. Looked like a rugby player taking it.

    Are you being deliberately daft?

Hart missed the penalty to win the game and reach the Final, he shouldn’t even have been anywhere near that position in the first place. That’s basic common sense not even a football opinion.
