I was a bit young to watch Cafu in his prime, so Lahm for me.

Cafu I've seen both in flesh and I was drawn right to cafu he totally dominates the right side up and down that wing what a joy to watch was actually frightening as we where playing ac at the time lahm was a lot younger when he played against us mind you but still don't get the same vibe from him

I was reading up on lahm there and it says when stuttgart took him on loan in 2003 felix magath intended that he would be back up for hinkel at right back

Sorry to come to this a decade late, but this is the most ridiculous football opinion I think I have ever seen.

Best attacking one, defensively he was underrated because his covering in behind a high line was exceptional but for me it goes Cafu for Attack and defensively.

Lahm defensively and flexibility to be world class in 3 different positions.

Attacking, Dani Alves. I was going to say by far but that’s probably a lot to do with Messi being infront of him at his peak.

Messi and Alves though, the best partnership I’ve seen in football. Along with Xavi, Iniesta. Beckham and Van Nistelrooy an outside different sorta shout.

    Larsson and Sutton aside obv

    Wild take.

He was one of the best defenders of his generation, playing in one of the best defensive partnerships of his generation, playing in one of the best defences of his generation, playing in one of the best leagues of his generation, playing in one of the best teams of his generation.

He won Serie A 7 times. The Champions League 5 times (runners up three times). UEFA Super Cup 4 times. And a World Cup.

You don't win those trophies if you're just 'very good'. You need to be an elite player.

He's considered to be one of the greatest defenders of all time. Rightfully so.

It's insane. Cafu is a level above Lahm.

He also played at the very top level for the same elite club for, what, 25 odd years? Retired at 41. Unbelievable footballer.

    Guardiola on Lahm

"Philipp was and is a special person in my life," Guardiola told a news conference. "It is not easy for a Catalan guy to go to Munich after their Treble and learn German and be involved in that culture. He helped me on and off the pitch.

"He is one of the most fantastic players I ever trained in my life and one of the most intelligent. Football is going to miss one of the best players ever. He can play in 10 positions, no problems because he understands the game perfectly.”

Yeah, I thought Lahm was incredible. I only really seen the last few years of Cafu and he was probably coming to the end of his career.

    Lahm for me.

Tbh if you were having a greatest xi from the last 30 years, you could have Cafu on the right and Lahm on the left...

Mine would probably be Lahm on the right and Ashley Cole on the left.

    Lahm
    Maldini
    Ramos
    Cafu

    Xavi
    Iniesta
    Zidane

    Messi
    C Ronaldo
