First game I’ve been at for too long, maybe the 2nd since 2019… and I forgot how much you don’t catch on tele.

McGregor does all the noticeable outstanding stuff that stands out watching it in the house, but its the other stuff outwith that today that I was in * awe of the performance he stuck in. Wee things like closing off passes there midfielders can get off when others are pressing, there was one point AJ missed a tackle and looked gutted with himself, McGregors right over to him encouraging and heads back up, or every now and again a wee rocket aimed at O’Riley… he done it twice today and I don’t think O’Riley had done * all wrong ti get chinned for… but his game would raise after it, cos he was * off and * bouncing off him cos of that.

He elevates everyone around him. And that’s before mentioning just how * good a football player he is. He’s up there with my highest echelon of my favourite players - Larsson, Lubo, McGregor and Broony.

I’ve been very critical of him but my * what a performance yesterday. Just oozed quality. And was getting stuck in, intercepting, pressing and driving forward. Him and O’Riley are streets ahead of anything they have imo

Can you imagine what he'd be like if he had a good season?

His brain and ability make him lightyears ahead of anything in the middle in Scotland.

Funny as * that’s 2 different Hun managers that got Cantwell to try and mark him.

    * was embarrassed and emotional from the first minute when Calmac breezed by him.

Probably we tend to do that :56:

But the vast majority of us wouldn’t have seen him week in, week out in his pomp. I can remember him slightly as an old slow guy who couldn’t run. And who wasn’t Andy Thom so probably wasn’t interested because of that either :56:

He was absolutely brilliant yesterday, that was better than a classic Broony performance, the bit where he riled up Cuntwell at the far touchline was classic.
Glad to hear Rodgers acknowledge his performance yesterday and say he would take him to any team he went to.

Apparently tried to as well judging with the rumours his first summer at Leicester, McGregor no interested in any enquiry we’ve had by all accounts.

Honestly, love the guy for that, because he could be in a bigger league, much bigger money, against better opponents and becoming even better than he is already with that week in week out. He deserves a ridiculous amount of praise.

Loved Rodgers' post match comments about him. "Yeah well Callum's on a different level to anyone on the pitch, with the greatest respect. The quality he has, the idea of football he has, how he leads the team... just absolutely incredible. When you need your top players to stand up, he was there. I can't speak highly enouigh of him."

Can’t disagree with a word of that, he was absolutely levels above anyone near him on that pitch. He done it whilst properly enjoying himself out there as well, that’s a performance I’ll never forget from him no joke. Large periods of the game a realised a was just sitting watching him :56:

I can remember doing that with Lambert against Hibs I think it was and was a similar experience, levels above the midfielders around him, legs starting to go and everything.

:56:- grew up watching McStay, but * knows, how do you actually compare them, across so many years apart?

Anyway it's just an opinion. Actually always debated with myself whether McStay or Collins was the better midfielder, never did decide.

McStay was real quality mate but unfortunately for him spent a lot of his career in a poor celtic team. He would absolutely stroll it in our current team, in fact he's exactly the kind of player we need right now.

McStay was absolute class and was my favourite player growing up, McGregor has been by favourite player in recent years..

It's actually quite close and it's always difficult comparing players from different era's but McStay certainly isn't overrated by those who seen him.

Individual ability McStay edges it for me..

I'm just going to come out and say it. It's probably the best midfield performance I've ever seen in recent games against them.

He absolutely * strolled it and I know we like to batter into Cantwell but let's not forget how * highly thought of this guy was 3/4 years ago. He's not a terrible football player, by any stretch. He's got no heart and he * hides away in these games but the lesson that Callum McGregor gave him.. it's * ridiculous.

While I know Sutton was on the wind up to Cantwell, I thought Neil McCann said it right on Sportscene, he was taught a FOOTBALLING lesson first and foremost and then a lesson in how to run a football team and a midfield in a huge game.

    Incredible performance.
