As has been mentioned many times, we need quality players that at a minimum have the basic tools and skills to play the game at Celtic level
We have several players in our first team and squad that cannot even trap, control or pass the ball, FFS.
Many are so weak physically it's embarrassing.
There is almost no pace in the team - Maeda has amazing energy but is actually not that fast (young Dundee full back had him in his pocket).
I'd keep A.Johnston, O'Reilly, Hattate, CCV, McGregor, Palma, Kyogo and maybe Abada - the rest need to be gradually sold or loaned.
Majority were signed for Ange ball, so now that we are playing a more 'considered' game (trying to be nice here) they just don't fit the style anymore.

I hope we can do enough for the SPL this season as January is notoriously difficult time to get value for money and buy our way out if trouble.
A Scottie Broon type midfielder a minimum plus couple of high quality loan signings (of Bellamy, Robbie Keane, Edouard quality) might be right approach with a very well considered and scouted summer splurge to bring in 5 or 6 automatic first team players.
Not confident any of that will happen, but living in hope!!!

Maeda definitely has pace and has the stamina to go again almost immediately.. the issue for him and us, is he doesn’t have the space to use it when teams sit in using a low block.. and he doesn't have the skill level to be effective at times..

He is absolutely essential in European games and in games v The Huns, he's actually better on the left too.

Maeda should be an excellent squad player.. I'd actually like us to sign another quality winger as we have lots who aren't good enough for various reasons.

I think most people realise that just because a player signed from a particular league doesn’t work out, it doesn’t mean we should stop shopping there.

However, it comes down to good scouting and minimising the risks. We currently have 3 players in the squad from SK - two of them who did very well in the K League. Both of them aren’t cutting it. The third can’t even get in the squad most weeks.

If we’re talking about probability…it’s more likely this other guy isn’t good enough either. Could he be great? Aye. But based on our scouting of that league I have almost no confidence.

We are not in a position just now to keep spending money on projects who may need months/years to become Celtic quality (if they ever get there).

I want us to sign players that have had relative success in Europe.

By that I mean guys who have won games with smaller teams in the Europa League or Conference League.

If that is outwith our capabilities with the resources we have, we’re genuinely as well chucking it.

Signing boys that have played the majority of their careers in the Korean first and second division and the A League and praying they acclimatise to the Champions League immediately is hit and hope stuff.

Just get 3/4 good players wherever they are from and whatever they've done.

Some good signings for us had little or no experience Forster, Van Dijk, Ajer, Denayer, Wanyama, O'Riley, Frimpong, Roberts, Abada, Edouard, Dembele could even add in Mulgrew, Armstrong, Christie, Stokes, Griffiths. Then theres Izaguirre, Hatate, Maeda, Kyogo from other sides of the planet who done well right away.

Then a lot of people would have assumed CCV and Jota not to be very good and they were before them probably Boyata and Samaras even Giakoumakis people said he's been * for loads of teams and half his goals were penalties etc

We've probably signed 50 good players in the last 10 year so it's not that hard.

Think 2 signings with some form of pedigree at LB and RW would change our game entirely.

I personally would much rather see a GK signed ahead of a RW or any forward thinking player, but I can see the club signing attackers before any of the glaringly obvious positions are addressed.

Either way, it is going to take a miracle to get a good chunk of fans back on side with the board with the upcoming window as even if we do win the league, if we come out of this window not addressing LB and then signing a bunch of non European young projects... fans will have little hope for next season in terms of any level of European competition

Forster had a season with Norwich and then 2 loans with us before we bought him for 2m, Van Dijk had 2 good seasons in Holland, Wanyama a regular in Belgium, Abada had been scoring goals for 2 years in his league (not the best league but a reasonable one), Dembele scored 17 for Fulham the previous season and Ajer didn't walk into the team, he went on loan first. He'd played 60 pro games by age 17 unlike recent signings who play 50 by ages 23. That was good scouting, and a time I think winning the league was a given so risks could be taken more so than now.

Yes, it's totally baffling as to why the two of them haven't really been involved in the team. There's obviously something going on behind the scenes that we will probably never find out and it must be something big to justify Rodgers playing Phillips before them.

    GK
    LB
    DM
    RW

These positions, like in the Summer, are still absolutely crucial. We need another ST now too. Maybe another CB too if Lagerbielke/Nawrocki are offski.

Can't say I have much hope in addressing many of them. We might get another project and a loan from the EPL.

Priorities for me are LB, CM, ST, GK.

    RW if Abada leaves.

    Summer DM, CB.

I'm gonna say it. I'd take Shankland.

I think him along with another striker would do us the world of good.

Won't happen but he's a natural goalscorer who I think would for example have helped himself to a few yesterday with many of those crosses going in.

If he goes to the other side of the city I could see it being a signing that would become an annoyance for us. That's not the only reason I'd sign him, mind. Having in the past been very against the idea.

    Also helps with HG quota.

was just thinking the same thing after watching that game

think he could be like Lee Griffith in Rodgers first spell. Not starting every game but deadly coming on as sub and starting the odd game

I think he's got limitations. The obvious one being pace.

Other than that I think he'd quite clearly score goals for us domestically. His hold up play is good, leads the line well. Can finish.

I don't think we'd pay the money they want but I think he'd be a Scott McDonald type signing.

Will be deadline day stuff I’d imagine now. Had Ange been here right now we’d have got our players in the first week of the window.

I'm still slightly in shock about how badly the last window went.

Bye bye Jota, Starfelt and Mooy.

1 player in (Palma) who is quite good; but not as good as who he replaced. I can accept the signing itself as he's quite good and it's hard to replace someone like Jota on our budget; but he is literally the highlight of our summer signings! How can this downgrade be the highlight?!

Then 2 players who may or may not make it at some point (Holm and Yang) and a bunch of other other projects that probably won't.

2 CBs for a combined £8.4 million* who are currently 4th and 5th choice behind Stephen Welsh in the pecking order!

    No LB, no GK.

I'm honestly struggling to think of a worse window. If we have another like that, will we be favourites for the title?

Still a left back and a striker for me. A goalie would be a bonus.

Shankland should be nowhere * near us, for obvious reasons.

Cos scores goals and we sign strikers who don't.
