Grand old team to play for
    Brendan:
“Liel looked really good on the field when he trained. [with the group last night]. We kept him at home to do another session to build him up. We’ve missed his running, his goals. He’ll be brilliant for us for the second part of the season.

“Reo is at a good level, but not a level to start. We’ll see how he goes over these next few days.

"He’s training hard, working well and it will be like having two new players when we get those two back.”

Pistol Pete: "Great, that's two thirds of out new signings for January sorted."

I hope we do go ahead and sign a new goalkeeper, left back centre back, centre mid, winger and striker.

More chance of me and James Mccarthy starting on Saturday in the middle of the park vs the huns though.

I'm really intrigued as to what we'll do in January. The board will be hoping like * that we beat the huns so that it will be all rosey.

If we lose, they either need to sack Rodgers or heavily back him.

    * knows.

The current fear amongst us all that CCV might fail to make it for the 30th only reinforces the need for us to sign a CB and, just because Taylor had a good enough game today, doesn't hide the fact that we also need a new LB. We also need a new GK, CM, CF - all of whom good enough to walk into our team - no fecking projects or EPL rejects

I actually think a striker needs to be the first priority this window and then get a keeper in the summer

    Not holding out much hope.

This latest Korean link doesn't inspire me. I get that we will still target these players but this window of all windows is not the time.

I don't know anything about the new Korean lad we're linked with but the other three Koreans we have don't have any bearing on how that lad will do if he signs.

And as usual, some of our fans are more than willing to accept such mediocrity.

I saw that Korean project being compared to both Kayal and McGinn.

With someone else challenging the accurate perception that this isn't good enough, asking "what do people expect?"

If this is the yardstick of our business, we may as well hand Sevco the * title now and play "boardroom excuses bingo" for the rest of the season.

The lad might be * but how can you call him mediocre without having seen him play? Baffling.

Once again mate *sighs*, I didn't call the lad the mediocre.

The lad may well turn out to be * Pirlo.

The quality of our targets, ie. The market we are shopping in is mediocre. The market we're shopping in, is * mediocre.

I go back to this point over and over again. You pay low fees, you get poor quality. You shop in the bargain bin, you get poor quality. That's the be all and end all of modern football. Nine times out of ten, you get what you pay for.

The mediocrity I referred to was the calibre of target. I'm not talking about natural ability or potential. This isn't champ manager 02/03, where you sign Anatoli Todorov for 3m and he ends up winning the CL for you.

We should be nowhere near this level of player. Miles away from it in fact.

We should be looking at a calibre of player with a fair bit of experience, from a competitive league, looking to make professional strides.

    Signings like Juranovic for example.

This guy has played top flight football in Korea for a single season. Has no caps, and if evidence if his compatriots is to be used as an indicator, will take weeks, if not months, to get up to speed.

    What's baffling about that exactly?

What is it you're intent on pressing here? That the club know what they're doing and our scouts do too?
That this guy has a high probability of ripping it up for us?
I should have faith in our transfer targets?

    What exactly?

We got two centre backs sitting on the * and cost nearly £8 million in rocki and lager and * knows what's going on with these two .
Rocki looked ok and got injured and never seen him again and lager scores the winner in a champions league game and dropped altogether.

The club does need to give the support an update what is happening with these two.

The handling of Lagerbielke has been particularly bad. He hasn't looked good enough to me so far, but after giving him a chance in a champions league game and he then scored the winning goal, dropping him from the squad in the next game was wrong. That's the decisions that cause upset and confidence issues.

If CCV doesn't make Saturday one of them will end up being thrown in and will likely look rusty due to lack of game time.

Nah Welsh will start and Phillips will be on bench. Nawrocki and lagerbielke are clearly done here though and that's £8m wasted!

Same with siegriest who looked the part and never gets in the team or the bench and there are clearly issues going on within the club .
Was rocki and lager bought without consultation with Rogers or is a attitude problem with the players as someone said the club really needs to let the support know what's going on here .

Spare me the Footy Manager analogy please, it’s become tedious and no one thinks FM is like real life.

If you say the market is mediocre then vastly so are the players within that market, so you’re still saying he’s mediocre regardless. Within the context of what you’re saying accepting the player is accepting mediocrity, according to you.

You can play around with the phrasing if you like but you’re still making a judgement without seeing the lad. No one is accepting anything anyway, he’ll be loved if he plays well for us and criticised if he doesn’t, same as any signing. That’s if he even signs.

We signed Juranovic from the same league we signed Klimala. One was great and one was hopeless.

Oh has been ok while Yang has been poor and Kwon has barely been seen.

Kyogo has been great while Ideguchi is a flop.

Making assumptions based on a player’s
nationality or the league they arrived from is irrational. That’s why it’s baffling. That’s the intent.

Not you, but I’ve seen at least one fan online say “no more Asian players please”, which is particularly stupid but is along the same lines of irrational thought because Yang and Kwon haven’t been great so far.

I don't think we'll see Phillips again. Lagerbielke got on ahead of him against Feyenoord.

I suspect Rodgers to chuck one of them in if CCV doesn't make it.

It will be £8m wasted if they aren't playing and we can't recoup our money. Rumours are we will sell Lagerbielke.

Thinking about our midfield situation, and the fact a lot of folk want us to sign a top quality player rather than projects.

I understand that, but the fact that O'Riley looks like he'll be away pretty soon I reckon we'll wait till that situation comes to a head before bringing quality in there.

That aside, Turnbull will be away, looks like Kwon ain't cutting it, and so far Bernardo doesn't look like being worth a big outlay (although he could still get there).

So, a starting 3 of McGregor, O'Riley and Hatate, with Holm and Iwata providing cover, is not enough numbers. The Korean boy looks a player imo, so bringing him in would make sense. Then once O'Riley moves on we replace him with proven quality and we're looking good.

Agreed that the Korean guy, should he sign, could turn out to be great or could turn out to be *.

But we simply should be targeting a higher calibre of player. We shouldn't always go for "he's got potential" or "he could possibly be a good signing"

We need players in this squad that have experience longer than one year in the game, and from higher quality leagues than the Korean league.

And we'll always get the pish of "players don't want to come to Scotland"

    Bollocks

You throw enough money at someone and they'll play any * where.

Look at the Saudi League. Who the * wants to play there if they weren't being payed a fortune to do it.

Now we are not asking for millions in wages to be spunked on likes of Neymar, Benzema, Firming etc.

But surely there are players out there that we can afford to throw a little more money at than we usually do, who will instantly make us better, and also, there must be players out there that WILL come that are much better than what we have.
