To be fair, I don't think he's better than Ange and I would never argue that. I do think he's a similar level to Ange (although I'll change my mind on that if Ange wins a league down there) but vastly more underappreciated this time round than Ange ever was. Probably because Ange was really likeable and easy to admire as a person too, whereas Brendan likes his wee stories.

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers was delighted to see his players break through a Champions League barrier with a last-gasp 2-1 victory over Feyenoord at Parkhead.

Substitute Gustaf Lagerbielke headed home in stoppage time to seal Celtic’s first victory in 16 Champions League group games, stretching back to Rodgers’ first spell in charge, and their first at home for a decade.

Celtic were consigned to bottom spot in Group E after matchday five but the win ensured they improved on last year’s total to finish on four points.

“It was a big moment because it’s been so long. Since I was here the first time it’s all that’s been talked about, a win in the Champions League at home. They have now cleared that barrier and we can look forward now.

“I said to the players, it wasn’t a burden they had to carry, especially a lot of the new players, but clearly the longer it goes on…

“It shows the challenge of the Champions League. But we are very determined over the course of my time here to improve on that record.

“I have been really pleased with some of the performance levels, especially at home, we have shown we can play at a high level and compete but of course you have to get results.

“To get the win draws a line under that home record and we can hopefully qualify next season and go into it fresh and the players can gain confidence knowing they can win at this level.”

Celtic had conceded in the 82nd minute and looked set for further late anguish after Luis Palma’s 33rd-minute penalty put the home side in front.

“The players showed they learned throughout the process we have been in this year because we have seen games over the years where the equaliser comes and the other team go on and get the winner,” Rodgers said

You have to tip your hat to the players because the mentality was very good. Some people may have thought this was a nothing game but this meant everything to us in the process we are in, to get the victory and to feel the confidence.”

Sweden defender Lagerbielke came off the bench for Stephen Welsh for his first appearance since September 30 and his first in the Champions League since being sent off in Rotterdam in the opening game.

Rodgers said: “It was a great moment for him because he hasn’t been involved in squads, other guys have been in front of him. But his attitude in training in the main has been superb and he has always been ready.

“The irony of him being sent off and then getting the goal was great, a really nice moment for him.”

    Feels overly premature.

Firmly Orange for me. What puts you in the green camp? Not seen anything so far that feels much to do with Rodgers so far.

Well. I was thinking last night how he was dumb not to put Bernardo at CDM, but maybe all that matters is being lucky and having no pressure?

    Psychology is weird.

Well done in any case. We now have some idea on how to win in CL.

As much as I don't want him here, I'm so * * with the duplicity of the English media.

Weve been getting pelters all season, even moreso than last season about the Celtic manager. Ange got it for refusing to change his philosophy. Rodgers gets it because of his record.

Deserved yes, but where's the same level of criticsm for Ten Haag or Howe?

That * on TnT went full pelt at us 2 weeks ago. Labelled us, Rodgers and Scottish football embarrassing. At it again pre match this week.

Which is more embarrassing. A team plagued with injuries, operating at a financial disadvantage coming in last.
Or TWO of the richest clubs on the planet, from the so called greatest league in the world coming in last, one of them with the same points total as us, the other with a single point more, and currently being investigated by ffp for overspending?
Where's the pelters on your show for Ten Haag or Howe?

Ram it up yer * with a lubricated horse * ya * dozy * nugget.

Man United's campaign was a shambles given their group but if we were in Newcastle's group it would've been a struggle to get a point on the board. Given their injures I don't think Howe deserves much criticism for 5pts (plus they spanked PSG at home). They've also not spent anywhere near the money the mancs have in recent years.

He needed that. Hoping it’s a turning point for us moving forward. Hopefully Abada and Maeda aren’t too far away so we don’t have to start Yang/Johnston/Forrest on the right, Kyogo bags a goal and get the media off his back, which gives him a confidence boost and we manage to turn the orcs over in 2 weeks time.

3 players in during the January Transfer Window and we are cooking with gas in my opinion. GK, LB, RW/ST. Would love another creative midfielder but doubt we will get one until the summer now, with Turnbull and Bernardo away.

Lecter totally understood when BR first came back why didnt want him...was the same...but right there saying still don't want him is one of main reasons struggling...everyone makes mistakes...he made a big one that still can't understand but he's shown balls coming back when knew stick would get also know him n family celtic through n through...again still dont understand why left the way he did but he's our manager...when do we forgive him? Never? When wins league? Or want him to fail...need to get behind him and give 2nd chance..

Nullifies Kyogo, removes the passion from the team, makes you play boring sideways * and persists with picking absolute dross like Mikey Johnston game after game. Sack this has-been

Shame there're unlikely to be Ange MkII to be found in (likely) times of crisis :(

I'm still just so * baffled why he came back.

That first presser was decent, but since then everything we've done and seen is in complete contradiction to it and if anything done to shut any positivity down from that presser.

I honestly, truly * believe he was lied to and he realised that very * quickly after being in the door again.

This season is screaming out of similarities between his final season and even that of the COVID season.

Rodgers doesn't have the fire in him for this, the boards beat it out of him last time and he's realised it again this time. There is no passion and it's massively filtered in to the team.
Add to the COVID season of the board not * doing the right thing in a speedy manner - that's not to sack Rodgers at this stage, but simply rectify their own * up by getting the guy some high quality signings lined up.

The clubs a * shambles and the only ones to blame, year after * year, is this * board.
