He’s getting £250k a week tax free mate. In the UK he’d need about £480k a week contract to get that sort of money in his hand. And he’ll get every penny of it even if he goes in January, a good agent will make sure of it and he has a good agent.

Honestly I think he just said a figure he thought was unattainable they said aye no problem, and then it was a * well I need to then.

McGeady done the same with Spartak except we were trying so hard to persaude him he would love Russia, because they bid more than anywhere else by £2/£3m so he said £90k no tax, they said aye immediately. So he was like * didn’t think they’d have agreed I undershot the wage clearly, and moved to Moscow. We had 3 players waiting downstairs for him to sign the contract so they could do theres, think Ledley was one as well so fair *

I’m no convinced he does either btw, stockpiling in a bank account is one of the worst ways to make money on your money.

Honestly I’m convinced with some players we were linked with we hit a glass ceiling in the summer, we could afford it, but why would they go compared to the leagues we’re competing with at that point.

Or Turkey, dunno * they do or if it’s amazing being a football player in Turkey but they won Livakovic and Tete quite easily, and they were ones I’m sure were main targets.

We can spend £10m, we can offer £50k/£60k a week. But those guys will look down on Scotland so much, thats why we need to do well in Europe, so thats what players associate Celtic with instead of Mike Tyson square going with Schoolchildren. That’s how we got Van Dijk, he watched us beat Barca. If he didn’t he would have went to Ajax

Your comment on looking down on Scotland. Nobody cares where they play when the money is right. Hence folk move to America and Saudi, psg etc. Pay enough and we could get any player.

Right, we don’t have Saudi money. When they’re offered the money in a bigger more respected league, probably in a country with better weather as well, what do we offer to beat that? Teams that are also in Europe, who can offer what we are, in a bigger league.

Then they are out our budget. However we loose out to players where we can pay significantly more on wages than the team they signed for. All because we went cheap with our offers.

That’s my point, the budget is there, they aren’t out of the budget. The means is there to be able to pay, but then we’re in a full different market, that can leave us floundering. And that’s the impression I get from the summer.

What players did we lose cheaping out on wages? It feels like a Celtic thing to do but I can’t actually think of any

Brendan Rodgers has dropped the biggest hint yet that he could still potentially bring back Jota on a stunning loan move.

The Hoops allowed their Portuguese superstar to leave the club back in the summer in a record-breaking £25million switch to Saudi outfit Al-Ittihad. Jota's time in the Middle East has been difficult, though, with the wideman struggling for game time. He was not even named in their registered league squad and has been forced to wait for AFC Champions League and FIFA Club World Cup matches where he's eligible to play.

Celtic fans have been hopeful that their club could possibly look to bring the playmaker back in on loan when the January transfer window opens up, albeit Football Scotlandrevealed recently that had not been on the agenda.

But after a supporter asked Rodgers if he would move for Jota in less than two months, the manager left it open-ended with a simple response.

He teased: "I'll ask Michael Nicholson."

Ah *, just a little bit of hope now. Don’t want my heart broken again after stupidly getting my hopes up about KT.

    Could end up a geordie!

Newcastle will be able to sign players on loan from sides also controlled by their Saudi owners in January, after a vote by Premier League clubs on a temporary ban on related-party loans did not receive the required support.

PIF, which provided 80% of funds for the Newcastle takeover, took over four of the leading Saudi Arabian clubs in June - Al-Nassr, Al-Hilal, Al-Ahli and Al-Ittihad.

Can't see it, as much as he obviously enjoyed his time here, if he's getting a loan back to europe he'll have options and probably want to test himself in a stronger league.

Thats nice but he played in Scotland. Done well. Then hasn't played for 6 months in a league filled with rich farmers. His choice may well be limited.

Nah, literally couldn’t tell you a single thing about that league. Nothing whatsoever, don’t even know how guys like Ronaldo are doing. Have zero interest either even if there was coverage of some sort.

Al-Ittihad reportedly contacted Celtic about the prospect of Jota returning to Parkhead in January.

However, the conditions of the mega-money deal are said to have priced out the Scottish Premiership side with the winger being "marketed" across Europe with a January loan exit with a guarantee that the deal will be made permanent next summer. The 25-year-old left Celtic Park behind last summer with a bumper £25million payday arriving in Glasgow's east end - but the move backfired on the Portuguese wide man having been dropped from the Saudi Pro League squad which limited him to AFC Champions League and Club World Cup cameos

The winger appeared to be receiving a second chance from new boss Marcelo Gallardo after he was drafted back into the first-team picture following the departure of Nuno Espirito Santo. But the chance of a career revival in the Middle East appear to have been ruled out with Saudi outlet HiHi claiming that Jota is on a six-player shortlist being floated to clubs in Europe with a view to a January move.

It is said that he was a "special project" of the now-Nottingham Forest boss and Gallardo is happy to call time on Jota' stint in the Pro League. However, Ittihad are said to be keen to recoup some of the fee paid out for the attacker with a loan deal set to include a purchase claus

Win claim that Celtic were approached over the prospect of a deal with Ittihad viewing it as an "easy" option. But the Hoops appear to have closed to door over the "exorbitant" fees involved.

Despite this Shahid report the club are confident of striking a deal with English Premier League sides interested. The likes of a reunion with Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham have been mentioned and Itthad believe they have an "opportunity" to sell to a big-spending side south of the border.

Sounds about right, with the dough he's on now it will probably take an offer way out of our league to sign him. Wee * should just have stayed.

No chance the Premier league teams will ever pay him near what he's on. He earns more than Harry kane :56: hes no getting even a quarter from the Premier league. Imo he'll need to see out the contract

We lost his quality, everything that he brought to the team, and never replaced it.
