From the late 80s to early 2000s the Uefa Cup was an excellent competition. Since its rebranding to the Europa League it's been poor. Very much second rate.

 

That's my thinking too. I haven't wanted to even mention Ange to my Spurs supporting nephew. I still find it difficult to think that he moved on so quick but I understand why he did. Time and age are not always on your side and he's seized a huge opportunity.

 

Europa’s really picked up in recent years as well I think tbh

 

I hate the Europa, the wee theme tune, big teams Reserves playing, always looks to me as well like the games are slow motion, like nobody wants to try a leg because it's on a Thursday and they have bigger games at the weekend in the League.

Can rarely remember ever watching a good game in it, always bored to tears watching it on a Thursday and it sticks out as the worst football I watch, club anway Internationals are worse.

Should try and move it to earlier on Tuesdays and Wednesdays or go back to knockout games only in that and the Conference so theres pressure on every game. Instead of teams not really bothering in half the games.

 

Gemmel lost two CWC semi finals as a Celtic player, including the year before Lisbon, where if we beat Liverpool we would have played Borussia Dortmund at Hampden in the final

I'm sure in reality he was pretty gutted that we missed the chance to win the cup winners cup in Glasgow and further cement the status of that team

 

Some amount of huns and Arsenal fans saying they like him anytime he does an interview.

 

I enjoy it only because it's easier to compete, but as you say, the games are dull and the atmosphere is no where near CL level. The tournament comes to life a wee bit in the knockout stages while the atmosphere in the CL is electric from the get go.

 

He's just a thoroughly decent bloke, and even with club allegiances, that's difficult to deny.

Honestly, if you don't like Ange at this point, it probably reflects badly on you.

Some of the group games might not be great but I’d much rather watch the Europa League than the Champions League from the knockouts onwards.

Far more open games and clubs who don’t often win things often competing at the latter stages. Makes for a better spectacle.

 

I just prefer competitive games instead of getting pumped stupid every week in the CL and playing English League 1 or in a few cases even League 2 standard teams in the SPL.

The atmosphere isn't as important as that.

 

Yeah the old UEFA cup was waaay better. It had better teams until the CL expanded into dooom

At least he won't get questions akin to "Have you heard of Hearts?" down there.

It makes sense to me, though. This is his passion and it's what he's outstanding at and he must have thought he was getting too old and that maybe he'd never get the chance. Meanwhile, he had to listen to European managers who understood less than half of what he understands being interviewed at length about their opinions and no one outside Australia was the slightest bit interested in what he had to say.

He has a lot to offer and now he finally has the chance to offer it. At least, that's my take.

 

I live the big man his 2 years with us was brilliant . Would take him back in a heartbeat. He calls a spade a spade that's what I like . Ok he maybe hid his onward desires but he gave us a good time while he was here .... all the best to him and his family amd .. ANGE if you ever ever want to come back I got a spare room for you here while you house hunt lol
