Such a bizarre situation !! Imagine having enough money that you can sign a player for £25 million, give him an absolute fortune in wages then leave him out of the squad completely

He should never have left so soon, especially for Saudi ffs.

I love Jota but going over there at his age showed a distinct lack of ambition. It surprised me at the time and still does.

Tbh I'm just slightly bitter that we haven't signed a proper replacement for one of our best players while hoarding the cash we made from him.

Win win for him but lose for us. If they had ignored him, he may well still be here...

If they terminate his contract I'd be staggered if we don't ask the question, but we'll be far from the only team with an eye on the situation and he might feel that he's already moved on and ready to try his hand in a stronger league, I'd be pleasantly suprised, to put it mildly, if he came back here.

He'll no be short on offers that's for certain. I'd say we're somewhere in the low-teens in terms of percentage likelihood of getting him back.

What a * up choosing to follow the money there when his career was just taking off. I don't have any sympathy for him.

That said, we're such a state on the wings right now that I'll welcome the big money-chasing * with open arms if he returns.

Sure, if money is really all he cares about.

If he was starting out there he could at least have claimed he was still developing his career but to have swapped playing in the CL to being frozen out in a league nobody respects at an age when he should be developing towards being a top 5 league player, is disastrous for his career. He could have been putting in performances that got a top team looking at him, instead he's going to have to sit out, wasting time, before starting over again at a club similar to our level. He'l have to prove himself all over again, by which time he'll be over halfway through his 20s.

Whatever way you look at, this move was disastrous for his professional career. Of course, if all he cares about is money fair *, but what a waste. He should have been starting and starring in games like Tuesday night.

Something like an £8 million signing on fee, a buy out clause for £10-£12 million and a 2 year contract.

    Get it done Celtic, pls.

Makes you wonder what happened really. Clearly something has gone on behind the scenes for the situation to have developed in as crazy a fashion as it has and so quickly too.

    A freebie to replace a £25m player?

We need more ambition than that.

Seems a few players have a clause of that nature. Must ask to put it in just in case thing go * up or the clubs want to cut their losses

Former Celtic winger Jota is reportedly considering terminating his contract with Al-Ittihad just months after his £25m transfer exit from Celtic.

The 24-year-old made the lucrative switch to the Saudi Pro League in the summer but has endured a nightmare time since departing Glasgow.

Jota has played just 133 minutes of football across five appearances for his new club since joining - and has been removed from the squad list for league matches.

Reports previously revealed Jota was taken out of the Al-Ittihad squad registration for domestic fixtures due to a rule limiting clubs to just eight foreign players.

As a result, Jota is ineligible to play in the Saudi Pro League but can feature for the club in the AFC Champions League and Club World Cup.

On top of that, manager Nuno Espirito Santo confirmed last week that the player is currently nursing an injury.

He said: "Jota left the Al Hilal match due to injuries, and is currently improving continuously.

"There is nothing serious. I will meet with the medical team to determine his readiness but a return date is unknown."

Now, it's claimed Jota is considering opening discussions with Al-Ittihad chiefs over terminating his deal - but he still wants to receive his agreed salary.

Transfer specialist Rudy Galetti claims Jota is debating whether to wait until January for a chance to be reinstated to the Al-Ittihad squad or discuss termination.

However, one complication to any possible contract termination could come from the salary issue with Jota on a wage worth up to a reported £200k per week.

Galetti claims Jota would want his salary paid in full by Al-Ittihad for a termination agreement to be finalised to scrap his three-year deal.

The journalist reports: "Al-Ittihad decided that Jota will stay out of the team list until the winter transfer session.

"The is now evaluating either to wait until January hoping that the club's and Nuno's decision will change or start talks to terminate his contract, asking for full salary."
