Hope this can get sorted quickly now and the victims can get compensated properly. I do understand the club following legal advice as it was unclear how far things could have went, but if a settlement is agreed I hope they acknowledge the part the custodians at the time played in this. And issue apologies on the clubs behalf.

Regardless of what is done now it’s a bit unsalvageable with regards to the reputation of the club.

The board were obviously hoping for all of this just to disappear so that we didn’t have to take any responsibility.

It’s been handled abhorrently with absolutely no regard for the welfare of the victims.

Not even the offer of free professional counselling has been made, let alone a heartfelt apology.

The hideous stuff that has come to light that the board couldn’t find in their ‘internal investigation’ just reeks of a cover up I’m afraid.

I’ll never understand why board members from the time who are still alive and possibly complicit haven’t been hauled in for questioning.

A sorry state of affairs all round, particularly for the boys who’s lives have been ruined as a result.

    They aren’t taking action though.

They’ve been forced to so as a result of the pending court case. They’re backed in to a corner.

They’re trying to spare their own blushes by settling out of court. Again, the welfare of the victims is at the bottom of their list of priorities.

This could have been done many years ago if our current chairman and the rest of them had an iota of morality about them, and done independently and proactively it would have gone a long way to restoring the reputation of the club.

It’s only good if the victims decide what we offer is fare , I would say a fair few would be after an apology before finance but there will be a good few that will have cash signs as a priority ! This may well still go to court but the victims risk getting less.

I still believe that out of all the cases listed there will be some that have jumped on the bandwagon and probably haven’t been a victim but it’s hard to say who has and who hasn’t.

if it’s 12million roughly then maybe explains why no goalkeeper or left back or striker

The club will be following the advice of their lawyers and will have been for a very long time, regarding this issue.

Sorry, not to derail the thread and we are maybe being even more conservative with this in the background.. but with £70m+ in the bank, there's literally no excuse for not signing a LB, at least..

Their choice. To the further detriment of our clubs’ reputation and the continual, ongoing suffering of the victims.

Are you privy to the inner details of the case or what counsel was given to the club along with the reasons behind decisions being taken? I'm not.

Aye I think that was on the high end, but it's a far cry from the bankruptcy the huns have been predicting over the years.

Will probably be around half of it, I'm just happy we seem to finally closing this ordeal.

    The reasons are blatantly obvious.

Trying to fob it off until it disappears, and/or avoiding or paying minimal compensation to the boys whose lives have been ruined.

I somehow doubt that the legal advice is predicated on morals and how to restore our reputation within the footballing community.

If we had tackled this head on years ago, had a full scale enquiry, identified those responsible and complicit in the rape of young boys, offered free professional counselling to the victims, and offered significant compensation comparable to similar cases, then we might have gone some way to repairing some of the damage caused.

What do the board do? Kick the can down the road and try to save a few quid. Then * themselves before the details of it get exposed in court.

    It’s * vile.

So you don't know then. What you say is plausible, but as we all know it's an incredibly sensitive issue and the club will have absolutely followed the advice given to them by their counsel. There's a vast amount to consider and legal proceedings are generally notoriously slow. In general I do think that the club have handled it poorly and clearly there are no winners with this. I don't really like to speculate on something so sensitive and horrible, but regardless of how it finally came about I do think settling at this stage is the right way forward because the victims deserve compensation.

Is this the same as what Man City done? Unfortunately, back then, predators could hide in plain site.

Unfortunately I don't think its changed mate. These vile, evil * deliberately get themselves into positions giving them access to kids. Whether that's becoming football coaches, scout masters or starting relationships with women who have kids, it's still going on.

The difference now though is kids are more likely to be believed as opposed to the 60s and 70s when it was probably inconceivable that the type of abuse was going on.

Long overdue. * shocking how its been handled. Could have had this same result but the victims have suffered more because of how we went about it

Hopefully it is concluded as soon as possible as this has been buried for too many years, deal with it and do the honourable thing , apologise and pay the compensation and move forward.
Ignoring the elephant in the room just makes the club look stupid.
