I was a heavy smoker for 20 odd years, i gave them up when i realised i was spending around 60-70% of my disposable income on * and drink, i went cold turkey and was really surprised at how quickly i adapted to not having a smoke every time a situation arose, i still like the smell of burning tobacco but never been tempted to go back on it.

I've never smoked, both my parents were heavy smokers. My Dad was told after a heart attack stop or die. He'd tried to stop numerous times, and had done for a few months at a time but that did it. Mum was told the same thing although she didn't try prior. The missus smoked 20 a day, went cold turkey when she found out she was pregnant, we saved a ton. Her parents don't know she smoked despite smoking since she was 14. When we went to their place at Christmas we'd stop the car around the corner and she'd smoke 2, then the same on the way back.

Don't understand why people smoke these days. The damage to health is well known, there are so many places that don't allow it, it's massively expensive and there are so many aids to help people quit.

    Nope. Always hated it.

I get how you can become addicted to it after starting. It’s the getting started that confuses me in this day and age, especially when we know how * it is for your health.

Gave it up 21 years ago. Mrs gave it up a few years after me. I wouldn't say we where heavy smokers, worse when having a drink.

Somebody told me the price of a packet a few months back, over £10 and I nearly choked. How can you afford that in this day and age?

At age eleven I started smoking Cinamon sticks with my pals, then we progressed onto asking adults to go into the shop(with our money) to buy a single * and a match, which we shared:99:
Into my adulthood…never a heavy smoker, but stopped when my first was born(didn’t want the baby comm8ng back to my smoke)…Never smoked since and that baby is now 39 years old.

Those vape things do my nut..

    * everywhere. Missus didn't smoke but never got the vape out her hand. Weirdo. These daft things that'll probably come out in years are terrible for you everywhere you look..

Tried smoking years ago. Couple of tiny spells puffing as well but no for me..

Always hated * and the smell. Waking up on Saturdays to go in the living room and bang on football Italia and there'd be at least 1 ashtray full of my das * from the night before and the room stinking. I used to whack it in a bag and put it in the bins out the block and open the windows wide..

Hate when people blow it towards you. Best thing they ever did was get all you smoking peasant * papped out the pubs away from us so we can drink in peace..

I smoke like it’s going out of fashion, not proud of it tbh. But that’s not my point, it’s about my mate dotty who’s now 73, always worked and always smoked. Asked him a few years ago how he was getting on in retirement, even though I knew he was still working and his reply still sticks with me.

Well he said…..I smoke 40 a day, that £10 a packet, £20 a day, £140 a week. My pension is £120 a week, so I got to keep working to have a *, then laughed at me as we lit another one up. * scary when it’s put like that lol.

brilliant lad ,one of the best things you will ever do. i think most of the aids are a crutch and keep you in the mindset that you are a smoker and you are missing out on something .anybody offers you one tell them you dont smoke ,not you are trying to give up get it set in stone in your own head ,it may be tough at some points but every craving will pass after minutes, after 3 weeks you will be in a totally different frame of mind

Sit in an office of 8, only one of the 8 who doesn’t vape.

Better no come out that you can passively smoke the *, it’s like an episode of Stars in Your Eyes any time you come back from the toilet.

People can't, and to be honest that's not a bad thing. I think it's about £13 a pack. It's lots harder for kids to buy em, when I was a kid you could buy em aged 16 for a few quid. None of my school friends smoked so I didn't, never even had one in my mouth. Friends at uni did but when you're 18, while still impressionable, you're not as much as a 16 year old.
These vapes are problematic, mainly the disposable ones. New legislation is being brought in on how councils dispose of them. They will have to separate every piece. Going to cost councils a fortune.
They seem very addictive too, 8ve been out with people and they have it in their hand the whole time. I imagine we will find out in the next decade they are not much better than tabs.

That's ridiculous, how can people afford that? My sister works in Glasgow Royal and says there is more people coming in now with issues due to vapes. She called it Popcorn Lungs..... which is basically small pollops or nodules forming.

Just glad I gave up all those years ago..

Never smoked and never will and find that most smokers are super selfish. Especially around hospitals where they just stink of dope.

That's something I've noticed when visiting hospitals. The amount of smokers is completely disproportionate to anywhere else. There's a lot of ill people that smoke.

The mess with cigarette ends is disgusting. It's at the main entrance with big signs up saying avoid smoking in this area. The stench passes into wards in the hospital.

I've never tried vaping, but some of them smell super sweet. I can see why they appeal to people especially kids. Inhaling all the stuff that's in them is going to cause more harm than people realise. I'm still surprised how many people think it's not harmful.

Brings back memories. Was very exciting to do that as a kid. We could also get 10-packs back in the day in Sweden and also singles.
