Aiden McGeady

Signed for Ayr United. His role is "Technical Manager" but he's carrying on playing as well.

 

One that went under the radar


The Club are delighted to announce the signing of Aiden McGeady on a 2-year deal!

A free agent following his departure from Hibernian, McGeady now makes the switch to Somerset Park and also takes up the role of Technical Manager.

Lee Bullen says: "First and foremost it’s great for us to bring a player of Aiden’s experience and quality to Ayr United. We wanted to add experience to our group and having worked with Aiden previously I’ve no doubt he will bring real quality to our team and be a very positive addition to our changing room. In addition to playing, Aiden is looking at the transition into the next stage of his career and we are delighted to have him come on board as Technical Manager. This is an innovative appointment by the club and the role has been formed to help Aiden gain experience in areas he sees as a potential career when he eventually stops playing. In addition to his coaching qualifications, Aiden is currently completing a Sporting Director undergraduate degree with UFCB and his key focus as Technical Manager will be to work with the football staff and take the lead on the development of the talented young players we have at the club through a variety of additional on-field sessions, analysis sessions, gym sessions and looking into their loan opportunities to ensure they are as prepared as possible to transition into the First Team. Aiden will also join our fortnightly football meetings and we are all looking forward to his input both on and off the field."

McGeady has previously played for Celtic, Spartak Moscow, Everton, Sheffield Wednesday (loan), Preston North End (loan), Sunderland, Charlton (loan) and Hibernian. He has also made 93 full international appearances for Republic of Ireland between 2004 and 2017.

 

Hey, if he can still do a job in whatever capacity (and clearly from the title he is looking to transition over the next 2 years), then good luck to him. This season will be his 20th since scoring on debut v Hearts.

Certainly seems to know exactly what he wants to do when he hangs up the boots finally and is making the what seem like good moves with the degree and this footballing move. Good luck to him.

Aye with it being that bit closer to Ireland sure they'll love his choice of country to play for.

 

Fair play to him, but never reached his potential. Still had a dec3nt career tho.
Love the story about him nut megging Lenny on the training ground. Lenny goes mad screaming "dont you ever do that again, bla bla bla"!!
Think Alan Thompson offered him £100 if he done it again, but Larsson basically said, "you're on the same pitch as him, you do what you want"

 

I was just thinking that. I'm sure they will invite him to their many Burn's nights in their wee stupid Masonic halls

Always felt he could go on to do well behind the scenes in football. Maybe a manager, but maybe something else.

Cracking player for us and probably quite under appreciated by a lot of the support, given his talent. Basically dragged us up the pitch in a lot of tougher games, especially during the era of Strachan's style of play.
