Two referees step back from on-field duties as VAR changes come in for Celtic opener

The SFA have made changes to their VAR operations ahead of Celtic’s league opener this weekend.

On Thursday morning, the SFA announced that they had appointed their first dedicated Video Assistant Referees. Andrew Dallas and Greg Aitken are the chosen two, and they will now “step back from their on-field duties” as the governing body put it.

So we’ve a hun/dallas as one of two permanent VAR officials (and I don’t know aitken) for the coming season. Desperate from sfa to support their club

If there is a positive here then its having the same 2 overseeing VAR, so consistency should be easily achieved... meaning any decisions that don't follow similar choices previously made will really stand out.
If/when that doesn't happen it will be so easy for the Club/s affected to question it openly citing their own previous decisions/rulings.

Well it won't just be those 2 as you could have 6 games on at the same time and likely will have at least 4 each weekend at the same time.
I do agree though that it should bring continuity, but should is the key word.

Aye I know there will be more games played but I'm assuming, always dangerous tbf lol, that these 2 will get the more high profile games, most of the time, so that should see more consistency... you'd think anyway... Plus if these 2 are the main 2 then they will pass on what they would do/expect to see done in similar scenarios.

The main thing is, very quickly, there will be decisions made that can be referenced should different decisions be made with different teams... We might just have * refs but at least we can all suffer the same * decisions and that would make the playing field more fair at least and I know what team that would, fairly as well, benefit more than most.
