The boss was then asked about Alexandro Bernabei who has laid down a marker for a starting spot with a number of eye-catching pre-season performances - chiefly against Athletic Club where he hit the back of the net. "I've obviously spoken with a lot of the players," he said. "Alexandro is a player I've been able to connect with and find out a little bit more about.



He's really good going forward but knows he has to work defensively in that aspect of the game. We have a number of players who haven't had a lot of game time and that's where the slate is clean for them. A number of those guys have showed up really well in pre-season. I'll judge players on merit and what they produce in pre-season instead of what they did before

 

But pre-season is effectively over. Will he give them time in early SPFL games?

 

It does look like his attacking play has went up a level in pre-season, but there's still the same issues defensively.

My guess is we'll want to keep him until January, then maybe loan him out. I doubt his future is at LB either way.

 

I would give him a wee run out in midfield to see how he does as he's definitely not a defender

 

How about we just sign a * first team left back and left winger. * all this waiting to see if this guy will come good when he's shown the opposite since his arrival..

We need upgrades..

 

The thing about Bernabei is this, brendan has shown that he likes to use the 3-5-2 at times recently with Leicester

If he does, a quick scan of the squad would put Bernabei as the best candidate for the role. Only other player id put up against him would be Maeda.

Even if we were to sign KT, it would surprise to me should we go 3-5-2 then KT would be to the left of the back three.

 

Sorry mate but he’s the “best candidate” for nothing other than the door. The guy is hopeless. If he sticks around we’ll all be cursing him on a regular basis.

 

Out of interest who would be the 1 or 2 players in the squad with more suited to left wing back

 

There was a moment really late in the game when Bernabei got done in behind with a one-two, it wasn’t even done quickly either. The camera then went to Rodgers and you could see him saying something to himself and shaking his head. His defending is comical.

 

Looks like we've already got Jota's replacement on the books

 

It's a shame cause I think he's definitely got something about him going forward but never a defender.

Needs a loan imo.

 

Most likely Maeda, but perhaps the poster doesn't even think we should play that formation. I'm in agreement with you: Bernabei would be very useful if he shifted positions.
