I think you may be right but I have to say I totally disagree with this approach, this hanging off to see who might or might not come is a dangerous game.

Say those you are waiting on don’t want to come or don’t become available by that point the other options near the top of your list may have moved on.

I would love Tierney back but I really hope we are not waiting to see if Arsenal can’t sell him so we can get a loan for a season. That just doesn’t make sense, having a quality left back and keeper in particular might be the difference coming that game on the 3rd of September and waiting until a couple of days before to then throw in a player out the cold is an unnecessary gamble for me.

I want a Jota replacement in but a bit worried the other problem positions aren’t being discussed we all knew a Goalkeeper and Left back were needed since about March. Yeah the profile of left back has changed but we still need one and Rodgers has been in since mid June.

I agree. Goalkeeper is the biggest one for me, the absolute top priority. Pre-season has emphasised how much we need a left back but for me the keeper is the most important, and surely we've known this since before Rodgers came in. Was there not a report early doors saying GK was one of our top priorities? It's ridiculous we're holding off on that tbh, unless we've got real assurances that our target wants to come later in the window.

I agree with you- we shouldn't be waiting. But it seems Rodgers hasn't completely assessed the squad, judging by his words.

Good news if true. Need a Jota replacement.

Also still want us to sign the opposite profile too: left-footed right-winger. Tilio literally the only left-footed attacker we have (I don’t think Johnston should count any more).
Tete or no, it’s the sort of player we should be bringing in.

Just saying in the Starfelt thread but starting to get frustrated by the lack of imminent quality coming in..

We should be further down the line. To have no a single first team ready type to go for our first league game in a couple of days is bollocks for me..

We should be further down the line. We've signed 5 players but we've still been way too slow for guys to come straight in and make an impact..

I've been fairly relaxed as new manager, no qualifiers, money to burn. But now the league is kicking off and we're weaker....it's unacceptable..

Agree. For this year I'd happily keep Hart, Bain and sign someone new. Hart's experience and standards will do us no harm for another year.

We can reasonably expect a better pedigree of player than Tilio mate. You might point towards Rogic coming from that league, but it took him a few seasons to break into the team. Tilio isnt ready to go and is also recovering from an injury.

I really don't know why so many people keep saying we're acting slow, as if every other team in europe is sorted and we're lagging behind or playing catch up, there's not really been much different in the pace of this window to most other years. As we've witnessed ourselves recently with the likes of GG/Jota/JJ/CCV all arriving at the death, it's not like we were just sitting around twiddling our thumbs and could have signed them all a month earlier if we wanted to, or aren't trying to make things happen now. There's always a mad flurry of business the closer we get to the end of the window, all over the place not just for us, we aren't in any real way slower, faster, special or negligent in our transfer business compared to other clubs, it's just how the window goes.

I've seen a some comments here and much more on social media in pretty much a blind panic because the huns got players in quick (and ignoring the 5 players we have signed so far) but never asking why they were able to get them all so quick, did they have any actual competition in signing them, or would we want any of them? They were mostly surplus to requirements at their old clubs, already at their peak years without ever really doing anything of note, or injury prone. Players that will jump fast at any decent offer on the table because they realistically might not get anything else. Now I'm not writing them all off by default, every signing is a bit of a gamble and might come good, but honestly are they the level of players you would want to see us making a dash to sign for the sake of getting business done early?

We could go out and sign some more players tomorrow if we had a real desperate need to fill the squad with bodies, but we don't, and if we did that we'd probably be dropping down a few notches on our list of targets for players really keen to move but maybe not any better than what we've already got, I'd much rather we stick to ones higher up on our list at this point even if it takes til late window again. We need quality not quantity now, but the unfortunate reality is players we'd class as marquee signings to walk straight into our starting 11 will most lilkely have multiple clubs in contact, and there's not a huge amount we can do to force the issue and make them jump early.

Was there a couple weeks ago myself. Leaving signings till late on in the window is poor planning and strategy. Regardless of the quality you're after and, new manger coming in. You get your top/best quality targets in first and early. Always. There's been no WC or Euros this summer to wait for, so craic on in.

Assessing the squad, fair enough. But certain positions were a must either way. GK, the drop off is happening at an alarming rate. What's worse, it appears common knowledge Hart is * off to the MLS in January. Yet nothing is moving on this. Greg Taylor, love his heart amd attitude, but he's SPFL level at best. A quality addition is needed there too. Been clear for ages. CM as well. That was another priority, yet nothing either.

Moving late is always a gamble and appears a panic move, reacting to other markets moving. Letting another first teamer in Starfelt go at this stage, is a step back again. Get the opening game done, but need to see some progress on this pronto. Winning the League this year is a must (as always), but the new CL format is another 20m on top of what we're getting this year. It makes sense to press on ahead and buy the quality needed.

So get the finger out Celtic.

Ok ok ok... I swear... I'm not arguing your reply.

But when I made the case / claim / accusation that we were * around in the market the response was

    "Jota was a punt!"

    "Jota was a "project" "

That was quote literally howled at me by about 3 different posters.

So what? Tilio isn't a punt? Tilio isn't a project player?

I'm sorry mate, but it's kinda hard to keep up with all the kds believers in here who have predicted week after week for 3 months that we are signing "big " players.

    So here's my take.

We signed the players we could from the previous "regimes" list, as usual, believing that they will indeed either do is a turn, or can be flipped for profit.
As regards REAL upgrades... We are WOEFULLY behind.

I dont think we had a * scooby what to do transfer wise without Ange, and Rodgers' patter about watching every game was nonsense.

I think he's taking an inordinate amount of time evaluate positions we KNOW need either upgraded or reinforced.

And I think we are waiting until the closing stages of the widow to make ill timed and ill advised moves for players on loan to buy basis.

    So no.

    I don't think we'll get a "Jota replacement".

I think we are once again reacting to the market, and not utilising the expected knowledge of our manager, because he literally has none.

    There.

    Rant over :blahblah1

Can't disagree with much of that at all mate..

I've been in the fairly relaxed/understanding mode but I'm getting the hump with it now..

I get the new manager has to have a look but as he's no heavily involved in the recruitment side at all, then surely we must have players lined up and ready to go that were already in place for areas like Goalkeeper. Centre half. Left back. Centre mid. Wing.....and I'm no talking about younger projects..

I get that signing quality isn't always straightforward but * * man. Let's get a move on..

We're now gonna be in to a season with European games around the corner and possibly having 4 or so players to come in, settle and get used to our system etc and everything else..

Rodgers did say there'd be no movement until after the County game, so no surprise it's been a quiet week.

This needs to be the last quiet week though, after County we need to ramp up our recruitment. Another 3 signings at minimum, but ideally 4, starting with a GK.

Fingers crossed we do, I barely trust the club to continue recruitment though...Well in positions we REALLY need atleast.

Yes but you say he's an upgrade on Ange who won 5 trophies from 6 playing brilliant football. To better that Rodgers will have to make us competitive in Europe. Not saying he won't but it's hardly a forgone conclusion. Like I say, time will tell but it's a bit early to say we've definitely upgraded.

Rodgers won 6/6 I'm his first two seasons and set us up for the treble nicely in the third season. Totalling 7/7 trophies for him.

    I'd say 7/7 (100%) is better than 5/6 (83.33%)

As for Europe, well both were lackluster at best.
I'll admit I liked the way Ange set us up and I'm confident with further squad strengthening under Ange, we would have gotten results with his style.
But that's a hypothetical situation now and we can't base his success on hypotheticals.

So aye, Rodgers is the "better" manager.

Both are too naive for Europe. I guess Rodgers has a chance to prove he's learned to adapt. But I doubt it. He once said he only takes advice from himself, or something like that.

Even in Europe.. Rodgers got us results home and away against Man City, beat Anderlecht away, actually won a game in a EL knockout tie..
