It's irrelevant though wether people are happy or not at transfers in the end people will only be delighted by performances and results and trophies and how those guys worked out.

Maybe it's just me but i've never been up nor down at a signing until they're playing. Maybe CCV and Jota since we knew they were good when we signed them.

We were never spending 15 mil on a player anyway, important we don't fixate on a large transfer fee, more about getting the right type of player in the door, if Rodgers is happy i'm happy. :BR1:

    It can turn into a huge, complex discussion with both sides making valid points, but essentially what I'm saying is;

    • We'll never make real progression if we only buy young talent and sell them before they reach their prime.

    • We'll never be a team who signs 2 or 3 players for £8m+ in a window, but signing one player for that price in a position we've just lost a key player shouldn't be unrealistic.

    • Signing young, relatively cheap talent that fit our model is great, but there surely has to be a balance, where we spend a little more on some players who are proven talents, are 25-28 range, that aren't necessarily only coming here to use us as a stepping stone to the Premier League. At least we've then we have a core few players who are here long term and not a forever rotating team of prospects who leave after a few years.

I can definitely see us signing one or two on loan to buys again..

    Works quite well for us..

I don't know why people are greeting over him saying we won't be signing anyone at 15-20 mill anyway :giggle1:

The £15 million thing came from that SD23, who hasn't gotten anything right since the Rodgers stuff and has also went radio silent over there.

TBH, I'm not that bothered with how much the player costs, just by how good they play in general. Vladan Kovacevic is a good example, he wouldn't cost anymore than £5 million, and wouldn't be regarded as a "Marquee" signing, but I'd still be absolutely delighted to get him.

I haven't seen anyone in this thread moan about not signing a player for that price (since that Brendan interview)

People saying a marquee signing or a statement signing doesn't automatically mean "He has to be £15-20m, they are saying it's not out of order to expect us to sign a player for £8-10 region to replace the key player we just lost -- instead of a £2m player who may replace what we lost in 3-4 years.

We should probably always loan guys from Benfica, Chelsea and Man City or tap up players coming out of contract and get them on the cheap, their scouting and youth teams are always superb, the amount of quality players who come from them and a lot who slip through the radar is mental.

    Exactly.

A good player, for £5m that would be an improvement to an area that needs improvement -- I'd class him as great signing at that price, nobody is saying it needs to be £15m, that's just a nonsense sentence that's being parroted over and over again.

We've only won 11 out of the last 12 League titles, not to mention umpteen trebles, improvement in Europe is something we'd all like to see.

Rodgers strength is developing and improving players, nothing wrong with that but think we will still see a few bigger signings in the next couple of weeks.

Supporters always look at the price tag of a player lol, it's what happens on the park that really matters, think we will be in good shape.

The only difference between like a £1million and a £5million player is usually just where they come from though.

If Kwon signed for Twente last year he might cost £7million now but he's no better than he was a year ago. Because we've signed him from Korea doesn't mean he's not worth £10million because players from Korea just don't cost that much compared to guys from Genk or Twente or whoever.

    Which may still happen..

No * has a clue who we're gonna sign and how much we'll spend.....outwith the manager saying we won't be buying players in the 15-20 mill bracket (which is pretty obvious)..

We've already broken our record under him the last time he was here for Edouard. 9 mill. We're even more flush now and with a better scouting/recruitment team..

But our position is unenviable, when it comes to European games. We need a keeper who can and will do a Forster vs. Barca. And, on top of that, he needs to be good at passing. Also, we'd like him to be able to save some penalties. I think that would cost well upwards of £10M.

Absolutely, which is what I said earlier -- we typically don't sign anyone for that amount unless it's a loan to buy deal (which I think is a great option), if you can get a year-long look at a player before committing to a big deal, even better.

That is true for the most part, yes.

What I'm talking about is spending money on a player who is already proven, at a slightly older age (23-28), rather than a young prospect. We're not going to be able to sign a player for that price who is world class, but if they are of a good level and we can keep them long term, that's great.

Were linked with Vinicius Souza all last year, he'd cost under £8m, he's very talented, he's 23, so we're not having to development him from 19 until he's of a level that can improve us in Europe.

I think we do need a couple signings like that.

I don’t think many of us care whether we make a £10m signing or not, but we all know that we have cash to spend and areas in the squad that need to be addressed.

Bring in a GK, LB and LW all of good quality and I think most of us would be happy. £5m on each is more than achievable and should up the quality of our squad. A loan deal similar to CCV/Jota for CM would make it an excellent window.

There’s still plenty of time left. I’m sure the club and manager are aiming to improve the squad as they’ve mentioned numerous times that we aren’t finished yet.

There'll be the odd exception but those players are examples of our scouting working well (jury out on Maik of course) but pinching O'Riley from League 1 is hardly the same as trying to attract a player already operating at a level similar to ours like Rieder or Tete.

100 pages of frustration and anxiety.

Hate to say it, but we've been duped. Some * whistle over at that nuthouse kds has infected half the Celtic support with an absolute whopper.

Hopefully we can all relax now and get pleasantly surprised by a couple proven signings at the end of August.
Thats all I'm hoping for anyway.

Pukki- back from the dead. These things can happen in our league.

Regarding the third bullet point, we pretty much did that in Ange’s first window when we brought Kyogo, Giakoumakis, and Juranovic in.
