And with boxing and F1, there’s been attempts like this before with China and America briefly showing a will to throw money about but what the Saudi’s have done so far to other sports, they’re serious and they are capable of doing it.

i can see them wanting into the CL soon, and with Israel and Kazakhstan eligible already, I imagine they could make a good argument as to why, an argument backed up with a fistful of cash will only make it more convincing.

So at 24, he can go make £20m odd in 2 seasons, come back at 26 with peak years ahead of him to Europe.

With the amount of movement they’re doing in the market, the levels not going to be any worse than the SPFL, with sporadic bits of much higher quality.

It doesn’t even matter that even though it’s true, and will be a wee sprinkle of a reason on top for him footballing wise.

it’s £200k a * week right in his pocket. 10 times is wage he’ll have here before Tax. Nearer 20 times after tax.

2/3 years of that, the guy has generational money not just for him but for his future family, and their future family.

This is beyond understandable. Frankly if he turned it down I’d just think he’s a very lovable idiot. But definitely idiot:56:

I know its besides the point, but part of Kazakhstan is geographical Europe, infact a larger % of the country is in Europe compared to Turkey for example. Its not really in the same boat as Israel

Taking politics out of it and looking solely at Saudi Arabia in terms of sport. There is every chance the Saudi league in a few years could be one of the best I'm fairly sure they already have great stadiums and regularly pack them out. Most clubs are government funded through the same public investment fund (I think is the name) as Newcastle. I also don't think they have a limit on the amount of foreign players a team can have the way the Chinese league did although I could be wrong on that.

If they keep chucking money at it the way they are I think there is every chance they become a real powerhouse in a few years they've already basically taken over golf and boxing in a short period of time.

All hinges on the success of the league though. What if no * watches? Jota will have 2 years in Scotland and two years in an obscure middle Eastern league. No guarantee he gets a decent move from that.

I know mate, which is the reason they’re in. Turkey is another good example, Israel is the biggest examples. Maybe even Russia?

it’s the examples to be used if they want to join the club and if they’re as serious as they seem to be about what they’re doing with football, then they’ll need access to the CL to make it happen. There’s no way they could do it without it.

As I said several times…yeah I get it he’s making a lot of money. What part of that do you not understand, you genuinely are one seriously thick * aren’t you! It’s just a shame he hasn’t got the foresight and confidence in his own ability to get a highly lucrative move to the EPL where he could be playing in what many perceive as the best league in the world and get paid around £100,000 (please don’t tell me that’s not enough and he HAS to earn £200,000 to be mega rich LOL) He could have the best of both worlds. He will already be on the radar of EPL clubs, a season or two of good performances in the Champions League for Celtic and a big money move to the EPL would be offered to him, he doesn’t have to go to Saudi A-*-rabia to get big money thicko!

I don’t know the viewing figures for the league but I imagine there’ll be a lot more eyes on it next season. Ronaldo going there last season made the league far more noticeable, I couldn’t escape highlights of every wee thing he did.

BBC are heavily reporting it now as well. There’s no doubt that we’re a bigger, more successful and more viewed club than anything over there, no argument at all, but probably not £180k a week worth of reasons to back that up. If it was…£40k, aye maybe, I’d say probably. It’s not though, it’s stratospheric money,

    Jesus * calm doon man.

This move gets him more money than he’ll ever, ever make. It’s tax free as well remember. So the £100k a week example ‘maybe’ in a year or two, £50k in the pocket really after tax. Still 4 times less wages.

And this is a guy who’s been coached day in, day out by John Kennedy. Do you think they’ll not be aware of how careers can go and take the opportunity when it comes up?

Aye I'm sure Istanbul one side of the river is in Europe and over the other side is Asia..

    Armenia bordering Iran..

There's zero doubt about it the Saudi's will eventually barge their way in and be playing European football within a few year..

The saudi league will be on the tele in jig time it happened with the Chinese league as well. I find it hilarious when guys like Neville get on their high horse about this and the Super league purely because they feel the English league is threatened funny how when the Super League chat was about Neville was a freedom fighter for the whole of football but as soon as the English clubs dropped out he stopped the constant chat about it.

The Saudis are doing to football what the English did not so long ago

I'm no the one on here greeting about it like a wee lassie. I couldn't give a * where the players move on to as long as we are getting a decent transfer fee when they do want to leave.

This is something I’ve been thinking about, they will get a broadcast deal over here. But Sky will run a mile from it I think, they’re a genuine threat to the cash cow they’ve built since 92 in the Premiership.

They won’t want to entertain the possibility of it being in danger and helping what they see as competition, just look at how quick all their pundits came out against it the money they were spending, calling for transfer and/or wage caps or a complete ban from them buying EPL players in Neville’s case. Not a coincidence, and rather ironic. I was quite enjoying it despite the source of it for a while there. * gobsmacked they’re even aware of * playing in Scotland now, why’d he go and score a free kick in the Bernabeu fs

Some genuinely mental takes on here when players leave, like how dare they have ambition to play at a higher level or earn more money than they get in our relatively poor league. As if they're supposed to commit their entire career to us because WE ARE CELTIC, they're not fans, it's their job. They always bring up Larsson's loyalty, we couldn't afford him now, he'd be on 100-200k a week in the modern game, back then he was on wages in line with teams down south, it was a different time.

People were greeting about Ange thumping his chest in celebration when we won the treble, because he was leaving for spurs he wasn't supposed to enjoy and celebrate what we achieved at the time? Should players and managers just be stoney faced and miserable when they score and win in future, so it doesn't upset anyone when they leave? * nutcases.
