Celtic is now just the premier club in Europe for being a shopping window for players to move to EPl and elsewhere for massive money moves. This is our biggest selling point to premium players wanting to join the club. Sad but true. We will never hold on to players long enough to make a euro impact.

We're thinking about this wrong. All this really does is speed things up. If we want to reach the level of the likes of Benfica, we have to sell anyone who wants to go and reinvest in the next young talent with (hopefully) an incrementally higher ceiling on average each time. If we reinvest the money well, then speeding the process up is actually a good thing IMHO. It means we'll get to the level we want to reach that little bit more quickly

If we don't invest the money well, then clearly it's a bad thing in the short term. But if that's the case, then we haven't learned our lesson and Jota or no Jota we're going to play yoyo with Rangers at the top of the SPL in the coming years and achieve nothing in Europe until the penny finally drops in our board room.

I don't know. I want to give the board the benefit of the doubt here. I'm feeling quite relaxed. Let's judge whether this Jota thing is a disaster or not at the end of the window when we see how we spend the money.

True...but this is a step back. He's still growing, improving as a player. A move to a better league was def on the cards.

Obviously we've all got the impression that Saudi Arabia is a non-entity as a footballing nation, but they're clearly putting a lot into trying to change that, hence why they've already convinced several big players to move there.

They must have an extremely convincing plan in place that they're selling to players, to make them believe that it's a viable career move.

I don’t think life changing money is a good excuse. These guys are already on life changing money. He probably makes more in a week just now than a significant number of people at Celtic Park make in a year.

Its a league without any prestige. All it has going for it is money. I think it’s obscene.

There should be a premium added to the fee, simply due to the fact that they have unlimited cash.

    * the patter of us joining the EPL. Should put a claim in to join the saudi league. Even if we start from the bottom tier we'll still be earning more than we do here:56:

Who's to say that the Saudi league will be the same standard in 2 years as it was at the end of last season? It's starting to look like they're serious. It's not just aging megastars like Ronaldo anymore and they do have the money to pull it off if they keep this up for the next 4 windows.

A footballer with 5 million in the bank questions why he hasnt got 25 million instead. Difft levels but we always want more, enough is never truly enough.

Anyone saying they'd turn down £192k a week tax free excluding any bonuses above that for a few year is a bare face liar :giggle1:

China was doing it. Ended nowhere. Turkey is also prone to nabbing decent players from the big leagues. Their league isn't exactly stellar, despite clubs having money.

As another poster stated in another thread, its early days in this window and Jota hasnt left yet.
If we are in a financially strong position as what has been reported, then sometimes we need to use that money to hang on to our assets. We cant match the Saudi money, not even close, but we can give him a more comfortable living whilst he is here in Glasgow.
Jota is good for almost 30 goal involvements a season. Whats more is that we know his attitude and work ethic is exemplary. To double his wage wouldnt represent a big risk to us.

    It's honestly * mental money.

    Fair *.

Honestly can't blame him. As long as we get a decent fee. It has to be minimum £25m but I'd want £30m.
