How big a ceiling do you think he has, mate? And do you think he'd be coming in as backup?

Marco Tilio to Celtic transfer fee agreed with 2 hurdles left to clear as Brendan Rodgers ramps up recruitment

Celtic have agreed a fee with Melbourne City to sign Australian star Marco Tilio as Brendan Rodgers ramped up his Parkhead recruitment drive.

Australian sources have confirmed that a deal has been struck for the young striker and the deal is now subject to the 21-year-old agreeing terms and passing his medical. Tilio is set to become Celtic’s second signing of the summer after new boss Rodgers had also confirmed the signing of young midfielder Odin Thiago Holm from Valerenga. Rodgers wants another striker to battle it out with Kyogo Furuhashi and South Korean Oh Hyeon-gyu to lead the Scottish Premiership champions frontline next term.

Tilio was a wanted man this summer and already has five Australian caps after making his debut last year. The frontman has also been part of three A-League Premiership title wins in recent seasons and was named in the PFA A-League team of the season. He previously came through the ranks of Sydney FC.

    Hard to say.

I hate labels like "the future of Australian football" (FFS) that can only damage him and there are definitely others ahead of him like Kuol and Irankunda, if such labels actually mattered.

Tilio has all the ability in the world but I wonder if he's suffered from a bit of a confidence problem. If he finds his feet and is lifted by the fans he could be anything. Can definitely beat a player with ease and play some killer balls. Very much an Ange style player.

As for ceiling... do I see him as a potential EPL player? Probably not unless he goes to another level in the next two years. Does he have it in him to go to a much higher level? Maybe...

He'll have the usual adjustment period that Aussies always have in Europe, but I expect him to be an important player for Celtic by the end of his first season.

    Missed the back-up question...

If Abada and Forrest stay then he has to get past them. If they don't (or at least if Abada goes) then Tilio is a capable replacement. Jota is definitely ahead of him.

If someone else comes in at a higher level then Tilio will keep him honest. He's used to success having come from the City Group, so will go into matches confident.

Ultimately, he has very fast feet and can beat a player in the box - and Celtic face so many parked buses, he'll be useful for that.

Feel like if this lad signs, it maybe means Abada is staying?

I don't see us signing another top level RW with Abada still here. Would prefer the Korean lad but fully trust Nicholson and Lawell jr with this one

Similar to Arzani. Very skilful two footed winger. lacks a bit defensively. Highly rated by a lot of knowledgable football people.
Is he good enough for celtic ? no IMO. Championship level more likely

I'm finding it hard to see where this one fits in.

All the talk is of quality over quantity really and not wanting to bloat the squad and then we get linked with him and 2 or 3 project signings from South Korea.

I get we need squad additions too though, so hoping this is the case and not a direct replacement for an Abada or someone similar.

Would really like to see us sign a few more proven players. This, on paper, contradicts what we've been hearing.

Australian players tend to peak later so hes not the finished article but in a couple of seasons he could be anything under a manager like Rodgers.

I think he's a smarter footballer than Abada, sometimes his execution lets him down but you can see his brain is ticking over, just needs that polish.

Thing is I think he's the sort of player that would flourish in more technical leagues where good players get protection so I'm not sure if he can do it here

His current club is part of CFG and they have an excellent talent identification program, and they thought highly of him.

I think it makes busiiness sense to have a 2 or 3 project players who after a couple of good seasons in the SPL could be sold on for good money.

Seems a strange one. Not too enamoured by it but hopefully another stroke of genius from Lawwell etc

Looks very good tbh but would still be a bit of a project maybe. I would hope if we do sign him he’s the last of the “prospects” and we bring more experience/quality in. Could be class now, he does kind of remind me of foden from them clips

He's more robust than Arzani. But I think Cleansheets' summary was best. Similar to Abada.

Jason Cummings scored 30 goals in under 50 games in the A League, recently a hat trick against this guys team.

At the risk or offending our Australian pals...that would concern me over the quality of most over there.

Everything I am seeing is that this guys not good enough. Apparently the LB Bos, might have been a better go? But is away to Belgium.

Bos if he continues on his trajectory could end up a 30 mill player. Raw, but was not out of place against Messi's Argentina a few days a go. Sky's the limit for him.
