    Ah....pish news..

Was hoping we'd get another season out of him as he's class. Would arguably have suited the new manager more with a bit less running and more possession based overall..

Arthritis in the back must be agony..

Big miss, but if not fit then fair play if he doesn’t choose to just take a year of wages when not up for it.

hard to replace without a good wedge. We were pish after he got injured.

Done well for us last season.

If he has fitness issues then if he feels like he needs to either move in or give up playing then fair plays to him.

If he does move on he is on good wages so frees the. Up for a replacement.

When he was fully fit for us, he was absolutely class, honestly looked a level above this league tbh.

Therein lies the issues however, when he's fully fit. It took him almost half a season to get match fit, then he missed the final few months of the season with another injury.

Wouldn't shock me if he quietly retires, best we could hope for is convincing him to play for another year at least.

I like Mooy but I reckon Rodgers is goni identify this as a weak spot in the side and make a big signing for the midfield. I wouldn't be surprised to see him go back to getting a run on to see the game out again.

Would love one more season out of him, but, as someone who suffers with bad back pain I wouldn’t blame him for chucking it. I consider chucking my career daily :giggle1:

    Shame for him.

Would have liked another season but not too upset about it. The more energetic and powerful our midfield, the better.

    imo

Would be a huge loss, absolute class for us, never had any doubts about him anyway.

Wish him all the best if he does indeed retire.

Love mooy, was great for us when fit but took him a while to get fit then after injury took a while to get fit again. I’d like him to stay for a season try get one more good year in before he retires but if not best of luck to him. Maybe it might give Iwata more time and we can see what he can do

Shame if its true, but at the end of the day if he is worried about his long term health he needs to look after that first

Knowing Mooy, he will retire quietly, shyly and extremely awkwardly.

Aaron Mooy is considering his own future with retirement a possibility, albeit Football Scotland understands NO decision has yet been made by the player.

Celtic midfielder and Australian internationalist, Aaron Mooy today announced his intention to retire from both international and club football with immediate effect.

Aaron, who played a crucial role in Celtic’s recent record breaking Treble victory has made the decision after enjoying a fantastic career spanning 15 years.

Prior to joining Celtic, Aaron played for a host of clubs including Brighton, Melbourne City, Huddersfield Town and St Mirren.

He also made an outstanding contribution to international football, winning 57 caps for Australia, culminating in his appearance at last year’s FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Aaron said: “While it feels really sad to be leaving the game, I just feel the time is right for me. I have been so fortunate to enjoy such a great career across the last 15 years, creating some fantastic memories.

'I am delighted to finish my career on such a high with Celtic and I would like to thank all the fans for the great support they gave me during the past year - I was delighted to be part of such a memorable season.'

“I hope Celtic continue to dominate the game and I wish Brendan, the new manager great success with the great group of lads at the club.”

He added: “Playing for my country is something I have loved too and of course I will miss the international set up and so many great people who are involved there.

“I have been fortunate to win a number of caps for my country and this has been really important to me - of course I wish Australia nothing but success for the future and I am sure they can get better and better.

“There are too many people to thank who have played such an important role in my career, so many managers, coaches, staff and fellow players. I have been very privileged to be part of some fantastic football environments, all created by really good people.

“My family is everything to me and I would like to take this opportunity to thank them all for the absolute support I have received from them during my career. I just want to thank them for being there for me in so many ways.

“Thank you once again to everyone who has supported me right across my career in this great game.”

Celtic manager, Brendan Rodgers said: “Clearly we are disappointed that Aaron will be retiring, however, it is something we absolutely respect. He has done so much in the game for a number of clubs and for his country and he deserves to make this decision on his own terms.

“I am delighted for Aaron that he has gone out on a real high after making such a telling contribution to Celtic last season and that, together with all his other achievements, should be a real source of pride to him.

“Club football and the international game will miss him dearly, but on behalf of everyone at Celtic I send Aaron and his family our heartfelt best wishes for the future.”

Really thought he had another strong year left then could retire

Strange one at 32 years of age. Surely there was another few years there somewhere.
