It would seem that more credible sources are saying this is a done deal, Rodgers with some serious backing would really be an exciting prospect.

The foundations have been rebuilt these past 2 seasons after that disastrous season and state of the club.

Now it’s time to really march on as a force and get our name back on the map in Europe.

Only place we're likely to spend £10M+ is a young striker. Where it's not actually huge money for the position, and we've great potential to double it back if they do well...

Any mid/def in that price area would be too good to want to come to our league, I think

Edit: or, of course, it would make sense on a truly quality keeper too... But unlikely

Could just be massively overpaying for someone *.
I'm never right about anything, so hopefully this isn't the first!

That's true! If we're back to buying in England again then those prices become chicken feed

Couldn’t give a monkeys about the 10 million chat and war chests and record spends.

Get the scouting sorted and continue on a similar path to Ange but just slightly higher up the value range as we sell your Hatate’s and Abada’s etc and take in large profits on them.

Only possibly way we should spend 10 million quid plus on a player is a loan to perm deal and it’s a sure thing they are worth it like Odsonne.

Precisely yeah. We can’t afford to spurn 10m on a player that doesn’t work out. And there are many many players with that price tag out there who are simply not worth it

Willing to let bygones be bygones if it is him and have faith that the talk of better backing etc and Lawwell Sr being less involved stops things becoming sour and him bailing like last time.
Hopefully said backing and the way things are apparently being better run now will mean we have contingency in place and that it stops things from being such a mess if/when he leaves in 2 years and means he hasn't run us into the ground.
If he has just deteriorated as a manager or the huns have improved so much they win the league then I'll be annoyed about that too but at least my main red flags were taken care of.

You save your big money signings for players who have proven it e.g. Jota and CCV.

Otherwise it’s too much of a risk at this level. £5m is more than enough to source a quality player and if we’re getting that wrong we need to look at why the scouts got it so wrong.

I don't trust Rodgers in the transfer market. I trust Nicholson though.

Rodgers and Nicholson could be a very interesting partnership.

Rodgers will demand the most from any candidate. He isn't walking into this job without assurances.

If it's him, it'll be interesting to see how far we're willing to back him and what his demands are.

As @Mr Shelby accurately stated earlier in the thread, there's revisionism on both sides of the argument.

So let me play devil's advocate for a bit.

Good : A phenomenonal coach and man manager. He has a proven track record on paper of doing very well at Liverpool, Leicester, and if course here. Unparalleled domestic success with Celtic, and showed he's can punch above his weight with some great Euro performances against Man City, Leipzig, Bayern Munich. It also fair to say that DD and Lawell will know a * of alot more about his intentions and motivations than we do. We've also got a new footballing set up, with Nicholson a far better operator in the transfer market, not forgetting Mark Lawell also.
Hamstrung by a signing committee at Liverpool, and a withdrawal of funds at Leicester. Same for Celtic.
A baw hair away from a title at Liverpool, two top 5 finishes at Leicester, as well as the first ever FA cup.

Bad: a clinically proven egomaniac who is always ready to sacrifice long term stability for short term opportunity to showcase himself.
His man management has a short shelf life and players such as KT, Rogic, Cal, all run into the ground requiring injections to keep playing an absurd amount of games as he has zero forward planning.
He has never taken any side past the CL groups, and the same with the Europa last 32. An atrocious European record, and we saw some truly horrific European results with him last time around.
His transfer record is equally horrific, signing some if the worst players of the past decade at Celtic. He has had money to spend in his last three jobs(especially first seasons), and spent the vast majority of it on poor players. Acutely responsible for Leicester's relegation.

Both sides have valid points. It's also not fair to infer that anyone against this appointment is butthurt or grinding an axe.
There are valid and logical football reasons to be against this appointment.

I would feel a * of alot better about this appointment if we were in anyway covering our backs. Ex: two year contract only. Fixed transfer budget overseen by Nicholson. Transfer targets provided for him via scouting network dependant on squad need (ie. Rodgers tells us what he needs, WE go get it.).

Unfortunately, it looks like he's the one WE have to convince. My fear is that hes been given the green light to rip up all the progress we've made the past two years in order to secure him.

Hopefully he’s given free rein and no having players bought he doesn’t know about this time. Time will tell… looking forward to getting him in tbh and getting a good summer of change and a good pre season
