I completely agree that it was a done deal in principle based on the timeline, however the contract wasn't signed and compensation wasn't agreed. Spurs could have pulled out at the last minute had a better option unexpectedly become available. Even if that or other scenarios which could have caused it to collapse were unlikely, you're not going to announce you're leaving before pen has been put to paper, especially on the eve of a cup final. The naivety IMO is in thinking that any manager would do that.

I hold nothing against the guy for not saying bye before he'd left, given all the circumstances. As others have suggested, if he didn't properly say goodbye to the players and staff though, which may or may not have been the case, that would be pretty poor on his part.

 

Don’t see why anyone cares when the deal was done btw.

 

It doesn't matter much in terms of moving forward but it matters a lot in judging the character & sincerity of Ange.

Levy would want to do his homework... "Connection with the academy".. he hasn't brought one player from our academy into the first team in two years ffs. If he can't bring one player through with us what hope does he have in the prem

Levy or not, it's clear he's been brought in for a specific purpose, which is to rebuild that club based on the success he had doing similar here. Kane will be off, whether that be this season or next, and a lot of those players will be shipped out, because they're either not good enough or don't suit a more progressive, attacking style of play that Levy is on record saying he wants to see implemented.

How much support he'll be given remains to be seen, but logically it's now in Levy and the club's best interests. Because you don't bring in a manager like Postecoglou, who has shown a propensity to bring in lots of players and develop them, raising their value in the process, give him a 4-year deal (which is more than any of their managers since Poch) but then not allow him to do what he's best at. It'd be self-defeating, although I suppose it is Levy we're talking about here.

 

Negotiations were progressing nicely until they said they weren't willing to pay the compensation fee required for me to bring @Notorious along. I'll be * if I'm gonna be posting all those interviews and press conferences myself.

Understand most of us were in love with Ange so it's sad to see him go. But I don't think there is any need for all the bitter digs. Like heartbroken wee lassies some of you.

He's no a lifelong Celtic fan. He's the first Australian manager to be given a crack in Europe and he's not exactly young. His dream would have always been to manage in the EPL.

The deal was done a few weeks ago and he strung us along with our negotiations for a bit of leverage for himself in his new role. That's the business of football. He's left us in a position that is night and day better than the state of the club he walked into.
