Dont like the lad personaly... think hes petty and is getting a bit too big for his boots. He gives away too many freekicks needlessly and he losses the ball far too often... I admit that he can play a bit but I just think that this bullshit about him being "world-class" is laughable... he rarely tracks back and his needless mazing runs irritate me.... think that he should take a leaf out of a real pros book such as rooney, he has bagloads of ability and could probably do 10 times what mcgaedy can but he plays the game simply and effectively... he chooses his pass, plays it and more often than not will find his man. Look at Rooneys desire also, how many times do you see him track back after corners when thers a break-away??? Think the kid (McGaedy) has ability in abundance but is too far up his own hole to just do the simple thing......

A lot of these types of players often lose the ball. Thats why their the few players in the team that take men on and take the risks. Obviously Ronaldo and Messi don't lose it just as often, but they still do at times.

Greg. re rooney! Your right! Works his balls off now! Looks ordiniary! Ronaldo McDonald now benefits from him!Unlike when he was wonderful! And he was wonderful!!! McGeady is a special player!!! OK, Strachan has made him more workmanlike (which is great). But he should not be destroyed!!! Maybe we should resign Maloney instead!!! Loyal!!! As our Ibrox brethern would say.

i am quite pleased with him. my only problem is more tactical, how we play is becoming predictable, we use mcgeady for nearly every attack which i feel will hamper his improvement over the years, opposition are fully aware of mcgeadys play and double up on him, in a whole its our way of play, time for strachan to change our tactics we need a new way of play, we have become a boring team to watch, i like anyone wants us to win trophies but for the money paid out to see a game you dont really want to go and see defensive football.

k3v. Tactically you are spot on in the SPL. Yet in the Champions League last year McGeady showed his worth because Benfica, mainly, did not do their homework. In the SPL, Strachan needs to exploit a lot better the fact that McGeady takes 2 defenders out of the game.

alright maka caught this thread late as usual . have to say everyone is enetitled to there opinion but for christ sake mcgeady is the one outfield player that so much relies on , as some one has mentioned has had fxxk all support from left back for * knows how long , and has to deal with about 7 r 8 differnt midfielders in his time as first choice in team , can say in my opinion lad is outstanding has 2 great feet needs to up his goals tally in time he will , but most of all has a desire to attack create and work for that jersey on his back , he be sadly missed when he goes trust me , good to see ur dad still has the passion for game , like me own loves his football at 80 , ands not afraid to speak out either . :shamrock:

I go to the games with my old man as well maka, though he likes McGeady :)

He is one of the players I look forward to watching the most, someone who can show a wee bit of class and do something different in the game, I agree with previous posters that he could do with a bit more support down the flank and we would see alot more from him.

Also, I reckon if we were faced with losing him most people on here would vote to say the would want him to stay.

I think he has regressed with running himself out of space.
He hasn't had great support, but I think we're selling some players a little short. Wilson went up to help him out plenty of times against United -- and he just ignored him and went on to lose the ball, which means Wilson was the one who was screwed and had to sprint all the way back down the field AGAIN.
Aiden is one of our most talented players, and he's got a very good work rate and energy -- but he needs to stop this crap of running into nowhere all the time and our CMs need to help him out a lot more -- which, I think is unfortunately limited to Robson.
I wonder what would happen if we placed McGeady and Naka closer (ie: move 1 of them inside) so they could do more passwork between each other.

mcgeady would be ok if he started in middle and then could drive forward but he has to run from wide and the time he gets inside his route is blocked because the midfield have got back

i agree with you totally, even switching them round during the game, when mcgeady gets crowded out too much, swap sides of the park or switch inside and mix it up a bit, hoping to confuse the defence, he is far too predictable the now

I definitely think it's time we started changing it up a little. We've got our base 4-4-2 down... ok, that's great. But the ability to intermittently alter the pace and flow of the game would be great to add on top of that.
I'm theorycrafting bs... but in that vein you could swap McGeady to the right, bring in Samaras for a striker and play on the left, move Naka inside, and -- if he isn't starting -- sub Caddis in at RB.
At the very least, that's a setup that I think could hold onto the ball all day if you wanted to protect a lead without bunkering into your own half, and be extremely dangerous on counters.
McGeady with Caddis overlapping and Naka and Robson to pass between sounds like heaven to me. But it's just a thought. =D

think you could be on to somethin here, the caddis mcgeady thing on the right wing would fly, but would robson AND naka be on the park at the same time?

this is not to mention, big loovens in defence and maybe crosas in the middle with naka or robson, theirs defo scope for experimenting

I was thinking of going from a 4-4-2 with

    McGeady Hartley Robson Naka

    to a bit of a 4-5-1 / 4-3-3
    Samaras Hartley Naka Robson McGeady

It'd be interesting to see where Crosas could fit in, but we haven't seen much of him yet. I also didn't realize Maloney was all but wrapped up at this point ? That gives a lot more options as well.
Maloney on the left for Naka/Skippy, or Samaras for JVoH, or Brown for Robson/Hartley, or Caddis/Mizuno for Naka/Hinkel ... any 3 of those and suddenly you've just injected a ton of pace onto the pitch.

Mcgeady has a few tricks but his main atribute is his pace. He seems to have lost a yard and with it his threat.

Like any winger he'll lose the ball at times and he'll over-elaborate at times but he's still matured into a genuine class winger.

He can get far better, he's admitted that himself. His shooting is still not up to scratch but he's still a young footballer with his best years in front of him...hopefully all at Parkhead.
