At the time he 'broke the record' it was bullshit anyway, as Larsson's first season wasn't counted as the league had rebranded in Larsson's second season. It was just media nonsense.

Aye its a loada pish that Kris Boyd is SPL top scorer. It shows he wasnt good enough to play outside the SPL. He tried it at Nottingham Forest and was pish, and also a team in Turkey....where again...he must have been pish cause he didnt hang around in Turkey that long. All his goals were with Kilmarnock and the huns. You've gotta laugh when he's even put in the same sentence as Henrik Larsson......Henrik Larsson who went onto win the Champions League with Barcelona and the English Premiership with Man Utd. Boyd didnae...he dodged about between the huns and Kilmarnock his whole career. Massive difference

Lol to even discuss Boyd with Larsson makes me laugh. It's like discussing who's best between Kyle Lafferty and Diego Maradona.

People now look at a 30+ goal season from a striker here as special.

The King posted 45+ and 20+ assists for about 4 years running.

There will never be a better footballer in Scotland. I feel for all the young fans who never got to watch him in the flesh.

The closest player of the same kinda breed as Larsson would have been Dembelle...and he was still a good far cry short of how good Henrik was. Mark Viduka was also a really talented striker...but his attitude was disgraceful at the time. Like I said, we will never see a player as good as that play for Celtic again in my opinion...it would cost ridiculous amounts of money in this day and age

Larsson's assists tend to get overlooked because of how good his goalscoring record was. It does him a bit of a disservice. For such a prolific goalscorer he was as much of a team player as you'll ever see.

The more time goes by the more you appreciate him.

Like how easy would it have been to sign the £40k per week (massive at the time) and then just settle in to his late 20s early 30s and take it easy.

That’s what would happen these days if we tried to keep a player like that.

Instead the King pushed on and got better and better. Never took it easy and was rewarded with a Champions League win.

I don’t think we’ll ever see anything like it again. We might get quality players pass through for a while, like Dembele and VVD, but I don’t know when we’ll see one commit his best years to the club and perform to the highest standard every single week.

    Edit:

I love the Boyd patter too. Boyd stays in the SPL for his whole career playing for a club that just puts it on a plate for him because he gets found out everywhere else. Larsson leaves the SPL (and the chance to cement the goal record forever) to *checks notes* win the champions league with Barcelona, assisting twice in the final :56:

Former Celtic star Neil Lennon feels Hoops legend Henrik Larsson would be worth "£100million plus" in the current transfer market.

The 51-year-old believes that the Swede would command a high asking price if he was playing at his peak today.

Lennon used Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez's move from Benfica as an example to back up his point.

Speaking to Celtic Odds, he said: "Henrik from his peak, so the ages of 28 onwards, you would be talking about £100million plus comfortably.

"I really like Darwin Nunez at Liverpool, he wouldn’t be as prolific as Henrik, and he was £75m.

"So you would easily need to talk more for Henrik because of his ratio of goals to games.

"Henrik left Celtic on a free to join Barcelona and he more or less scored in every game when he played for them.

"He came on in the Champions League final against Arsenal in 2006 and changed the game.

"Then he went to Man United - at the age of about 35, 36 - and he wins the Premier League.

    Celtic
hero Neil Lennon has compared Hoops legend Henrik Larsson with Cristiano Ronaldo.

The ex-Hoops boss played with the Swede for four seasons at Parkhead and reckons he has similar attributes to the Portuguese superstar.

Lennon feels Larsson, at his peak, was excellent in the air and just as effective with his head as multiple Ballon d'Or winner is.

Speaking to Celtic Odds, he said: "The guy had everything, he was world class and I was fortunate enough to play with him for four or five years.

"Every time you sat in the dressing room, you would look at him and just know you had a chance in the game because he could score with either foot and he was unbelievable in the air.

"He used to hang like Cristiano Ronaldo, bearing in mind he wasn’t a particularly tall guy and didn’t have rippling shoulder muscles.

Celtic legend Henrik Larsson is one of three former Scottish-based players to be named on a new UEFA board that will begin meeting next week.

The Hoops hero is alongside a host of elite former footballers and current managers that also includes ex-Motherwell midfielder Roberto Martinez, who is now in charge of Portugal after a lengthy spell as Belgium manager. And Larsson and the rest of the newly created ‘football board’ will debate the future of VAR in Europe as well as various other issues with the game across the continent.

UEFA announced that Larsson was one of 25 names to be on the list and as well as Martinez, another former Celtic striker is included in the shape of Republic of Ireland legend Robbie Keane. All three will sit on the panel of experts beside managers such as Jose Mourinho, Carlo Ancelotti and Rafael Benitez.
