I've not seen Fleetwood this season but their stats and results show a very defensive team who draw a lot with both wins and losses usually being 1 goal. He will need to manage at a far higher level before ever coming to Celtic and build up contacts. Personally I don't think he will ever be our manager.

 

Another big win for Fleetwood last night. Beat Peterborough United 1-0 at home to make it 3 wins on the bounce. Now sitting 8 points clear of the relegation zone. Nice work for probably one of if not the smallest team in the division.

Think given their FA Cup run too, you have to say he's having a decent first year in management. Probably even a successful one. I know there was a bit of frustration at some of their previous results, but Fleetwood have no right to think they should be in the top half of League One at the moment.

Doing a fine job and will hopefully lead to him getting a slightly bigger role in the future if he can keep Fleetwood progressing.

 

Fleetwood survived on the final day on goal difference last season. From where they were last year, he's been doing quite well. He could really pull away from the bottom 4 over the next couple of weeks though. They're away to the league leaders on Saturday, so you'd expect them to struggle there. Then they have 2 home games against teams in the relegation zone. They 2 games are massive. Win them and they'll be pretty much safe.

 

Those 6 points should cover them. This season I think you will stay up with 45 points. Because 4 teams relegate sometimes 50 points doesn't keep you up.

 

Yeah I would think so. It's probably getting too far ahead but there is always a team in the championship/league one/league two who come back from nowhere and end up sneaking into the play offs or getting really close to it.

They're 15 points behind the last play off place. It's probably far too many points to claw back with only 1/3 of the season left to go but they have some decent fixtures coming up. If they can go on a wee run, they can climb the table and pull away from the relegation zone, there will be a few teams in that league one looking at him for next year. Some big teams who have not performed well this year at all.

Peterborough, Portsmouth, Charlton and MK Dons especially. Decent sized clubs with bigger budgets who should be pushing for promotion. If he can get Fleetwood on a wee run, he could definitely be in the mix for one of them jobs.

 

Tbh I think I'm more inclined to agree now...by all accounts he's doing a good job given where Fleetwood were last season.

But can you imagine what the game will look like in another 10+ years? Tactics and players changing and going through another era change as guys Halaand and Mbappe would 32 and 34 respectively.

Like you say, he'd have to achieve a lot in those years before ever being considered for the role.

 

Always felt he never got a proper send off. Has he been back in any capacity since he left?

Would be great to get him back for a half time pitch send off. where the whole stadium can sing his name.

He deserves the best. He done fantastic for us. Onwards and upwards broony

 

It’s not nice to say ‘never’, but I can’t see a path where I’d be happy with Brown becoming Celtic manager.

If you look at our recent manager activity:

Rodgers - speaks for itself, top manager.
Ange - Hugely experienced and successful manager. Arguably our most knowledgable ever. Basically running the club.
Howe - A big target we were a bawhair away from getting. Clearly a talented manager.

These are the level and type of manager we should be going for. Lennon was the exception that proves the rule.

So the question should be whether Brown will ever reach the level of these managers. He shouldn’t get a sniff of the job until we feel he’s at this level in all departments. Ange should be our worst manager going forward.

 

For what it's worth, I can't see him getting the job either. He would need to really kick on. His next move in management will be massive for him. He's never going to get promoted with Fleetwood and if he keeps them in League One with relative ease, he's done a very good job. He might sneak a small championship team/big league one club but he needs to make sure that he gets his next move correct.

We have all seen it many times before, though. A manager who performs well the lower leagues in England, ends up getting a big job in the Championship and does very well with them. That then gets them a move to the premiership. It's mental to say but he's potentially only 2 jobs away from managing in the Premier League.

 

It's a strange one, by the time he's probably proved his worth he will likely have Premier league clubs calling. If he comes here then I think he goes to Europe next then comes here.

 

Her illness had been kept behind closed doors. But Celtic manager Gordon Strachan and CEO Peter Lawwell were acutely aware of the agony the 22-year-old was enduring behind the scenes. Not least because Strachan’s right hand man Tommy Burns lost the same battle just one week earlier.

And, speaking in the Daily Record’s new Off The Record podcast, Brown reveals how the deep bonds forged during that time of despair, became a driving force behind his rise to the status as a Celtic legend. He said: “My form went up and down and that was understandable at the time.

“But, for me, the club was exceptional. Peter Lawwell was brilliant. And there’s not a lot of people that would get phone calls from the CEO just to ask how you are or how the family is doing.

“Tommy was going through the exact same. Tommy was exceptional. On the day he passed away he still managed to send my sister flowers. They arrived on the day Tommy died and that shows you what kind of a man he was.

“You look back and it shows you I made the right decision. I came to a huge family club that wants the best for you, not just on the pitch but away from it as well.

“After that 18 months the decision to come to Celtic was a no brainer because of the way they looked after my family and the way they looked after myself, with days off when I needed them. The bond between me and Gordon probably became a lot stronger as well. We still speak now and that shows you what kind of character he is.”

In the podcast, Brown recounts the night he discovered a news reporter from a now defunct Sunday tabloid was snooping around Fiona’s student residence in Dundee, shortly before her passing. He said: “For me it was like, ‘They can do what they like to me,’ but not my sister.

"She never asked for any of this. She never asked for me to be a footballer or to be in the public eye. She wanted her own personal space but they wouldn’t give her it - and that was the hardest thing to see.

“It just shows you that some people have no decency whatsoever. They just want a story. They just want to get in there and know everything.

“That’s the difference between yourselves and other people. I speak to you because of those situations. I spoke to Peter as well. I phoned Peter as soon as I found out there was somebody up there and he dealt with the whole situation

“He was like, ‘You make sure you stay calm, stay focused. We’ll deal with the situation. Just go and pick your sister up and bring her back down the road,’. You know a club has got your back when something like that happens.”

And Brown reveals how this support influenced his decision to then turn down potential life changing moves to England’s Premier League in January 2009 - after being instructed by manager Tony Mowbray to find a new club. He said: “I had the chance to move to England with Tottenham and Newcastle but because of what the club had done for me in my time of need, I will always hold that in huge high regard.

"That’s what means more to me than anything. They looked after me during a hard time so for me to jump ship was never in question.”

Brown’s decision to dig in his heels paid off spectacularly. Over the subsequent 12 years, he would go on to captain the club to nine-in-a-row and claim a historic quadruple treble.

And in February 2011, he cemented his relationship with the supporters with an iconic goal celebration in the face of El Hadji Diouf during a heated Old Firm Scottish Cup tie at Ibrox. He said: “It was more of a shock to the Celtic fans that I scored with my left foot. They couldn’t believe it either!

“I’ve managed to whip it in past Greegsy, into the far away corner. It’s not often my left foot works but it did that day. Then that guy was just standing in front of me at the right time so it couldn’t have worked any better!

“But I’m still devastated I was booked for it. I’ve not ran, I’ve not taken my top off. I just stood and put my arms up and I got a yellow! That’s bad refereeing that by the way!”

Brown admits to later adopting a similar ‘wind up merchant’ policy during a series of jousts with current Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos. He said: “To be fair I won that one as well. No, I like to try to pick and choose my battles quite well.

“Morelos is a good player and so was Diouf. But I would always try to get in their head and let them see that I’m a decent player.

“You flick a switch and either get them a red card or control the game. That was my mentality - to try to get in their head early doors.

“Did it work? Now and then, yeah. But to be fair they tried to give it back as well. You don’t mind that. You want to see that kind of rivalry on the park and especially in a Rangers-Celtic game. You want to see somebody getting the better of others.

“I always wanted to get the better of him. I’d always try to wind him up, try to get on the ball and pull him in a little bit, pull him out of position. That’s what my game was.

"It was to try to slowly get into people but also at the same time it was to dictate play. To win the ball back and give it to the ten other better players on the park!”

 

Managed to secure a 0-0 draw away to the league leaders. Fair play.

 

7 points above relegation with their next 3 games against teamd below them. They could be safe in a few weeks.

Another win for Fleetwood, 10 points from 4 games and 4 wins and a draw from last 5 games Inc cups.
9 points clear of relegation now and I think fairly safe.

 

They're on some run lately, pleased for him.

 

Done an excellent job for a young rookie..

I think it's nailed on a Scottish top flight club will be looking at him soon like a sheep or Hibs maybe..

 

That bad run would've sunk most managers, let alone one so inexperienced. Really positive signs that he was able to turn that around.

Would love to see him back up in Scotland, but hope he has a good career down south. More opportunities for him.
