Is this the big striker?? Because I thought there was 2 Korean players we were after? And there's 2 names in this thread cho gyu and kyu are these the same player?

 

There are 3 we want - 2 are strikers.

the other striker his club won’t sell him so some posturing going on

 

This is our first target- the striker that scored 2 at the WC.

Regarding the name confusion- here's the technical and complex explanation from a learner of Korean.
Both this player (Gyu-seong Jo), and the Suwon striker (Hyeon-gyu Oh) have a sequence of Korean letters that is identical. The issue is that the first letter can confuse people. It's sometimes a K, sometimes a G. Same with the last name of the Jeonbuk striker: Cho or Jo? Jo is more correct IMO- Korean has a specific letter for "Ch", but this one is written with a letter corresponding to "J". And from what I've heard, Korean people tend to choose how their name is written in the Latin alphabet- there's no consistency. I know, I've written Cho instead of Jo a few times in this thread...

But in short: this guy has no "Gue" in his name. Absolutely not. Also, their surnames always go first, unlike the UK. I'm reversing the order, to make things consistent with how things are done here with European player names, or even Japanese names. Actually, the last names go first in Japanese too, but they get reformatted properly here (Daizen Maeda is how we say, but check his Wikipedia on the name order).

We apparently have interest in 2 strikers, but the thread we're in is about the one closer to 6 million in terms of price. The cheaper striker (Hyeon-gyu Oh) has his thread a bit under this one.

I’ve not really got anything significant to add to this for now mate. Possibly will tomorrow.

My understanding is that we were given permission to speak to the player weeks ago and he is set on coming here. Some details of transfer fee still to be sorted, but that’s expected to be done without any significant issue. More significant delays are due to admin issues over Christmas period, which ties in with @Blochairnbhoy’s comments on work permit delays.

My information is however a few days old, so anything could have happened (positively or negatively) in that time. I have no reason to believe this won’t happen though.

We want all 3 players as I have said before. Ange thinking a window or 2 ahead also with some other enquiries.

We've sold the player on the idea of coming here. I was afraid he wouldn't want to come to a club with 6 Japanese players. His agent at least doesn't mind that fact. Now, we just need to realize that we're a safe CL entrant next season as well, and that money shouldn't be an issue when dealing with the club.

 

With the profit from last season. Coupled with the minimal spend in this financial year (only paid for hacksaw and Johnston) we should have ZERO issues with spending what’s required to enhance the team.
