Their forward option's look pish to be honest..

Feel like he could've easily made that squad if he was on it a touch more....but he's been off it in too many..

Signs he's getting there but he really should've made that list..

He’s 27yo 28 in January. Got 16caps 3goals, which doesn’t exactly scream brilliant. We probably overrate him tbh.

But aye I still think it’s mad Maeda is picked before Kyogo. I’ve no knowledge of other Japanese players so can’t comment on the rest of the squad.

Oft shocked at that. Gutted for the 2 of them, but quite good for us.

The other 3 have a combined 6 goals for their clubs this season. He's outscored all 3 of the picked strikers combined

Crazy for me that Maeda ( and I like him not bashing him at all) is picked ahead of Kyogo. But from a selfish Celtic standpoint a rest for him is good for us.

Very strange. Especially with Hatate but they are easily both good enough to get a call up. Kyogo have been quite bad in the friendlies for them so guess it has to do with that.

Good for us but sad for Hatate and Kyogo.

Hatate not being in that squad is mental. Kyogo, not particularly surprised about it. That manager plays negative as * football and clearly has his favourites, regardless of club form.

    Devastating for both.

What a kick in the balls for these two, they will be devastated. That surely trumps any talk of us being done a favour as they'll get a rest no? Getting to go to the World Cup with your country is the ultimate goal of any young player. I think it's pretty bad form being pleased that they'll get a rest. Out of order actually.

The Japanese manager must surely he picking players based on past experience at national level?
Mental to do that though, as it neglects to select in form players and allow others to improve the squad for you.

Happy to not have kyogo and Hatate out there/playing, but disappointed for them.

Let's just hope it's not gonna signal an attitude in them that they need to go elsewhere/return to Japan to get in to the squad again.

Gutted for him and Hatate but it's good news for us.

Also it's incredible that someone can make it to managing internationally with such little knowledge of football. Anyone picking Maeda over Kyogo must he a complete * idiot. Dont expect Japan to do much based on that decision and manger will likely get sacked which will be good news for Kyogo and Reo as they will surely get more opportunities with him gone

Wouldn’t be surprised if the pressure of making the Japan squad has impacted on him this season.

Even in poor form he’s a far superior player to their other attackers though. Bizarre decision.

I’m still raging at this. Absolutely clueless is their manager, wish Kyogo was an Australian, we could use a decent striker.

Kyogo? His nature never changes, mate.

“He is always smiling, always happy. He loves what he does and that won’t change. But it is good motivation for them. They both have a World Cup in them if they miss out on this one.”

Postecoglou, who managed Australia in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, refused to rule out the prospect of Furuhashi receiving a late call-up for Qatar 2022.

“Every country has an extended list so there is always that possibility if there are any injuries between now and then that they can change it,” he said. “Kyogo is probably on that list. Whether they call him up, you don’t know.”

Asked if Furuhashi and Hatate not playing at Qatar 2022 will help Celtic this season, Postecoglou said: “Nah, I don’t see it that way.

Really gutted for him. Hatate I kind of understand even though he 100% should be there; Japan have a whole host of outstanding midfielders, plus Reo is still young. To bring Maeda and not Kyogo though is insanity. Only has one more world cup left in him after this too, and even then you'd imagine he'll be slightly past his prime.
