"I know there isnt much to choose from (defensively) at celtic but come on, ill take big bobo (touch of an elephant) before him lol"

Caldwell is not only better than Balde, but at the moment he's better than McManus. One of the best long passers of a ball in the squad, second only to Donati's long passing.

Agreed. Easily our best defender end of the last campaign. Kept his head well when getting pelters at the beginning.

1st choice defender at the moment imo. :50:

    sorry mate, thats ridicoulous

the other guy called you on it, when you step up in class, you make mistakes. i be more worried if he wis making these mistakes against St Mirren

Bobo's makes more mistakes than Caldwell at that level, like against Porto in the cup final, no one goes on aboot it like they do big Gary. He's * still young as a cb, as is McManus, and they'll both come good. if there still * in the CL in 2 years time, by all means, rip them. IN the meantime, get behind the lad, cos he wasnt just playing against top class players last year in the CL, he wis playing against 60,000, which is a disgrace, no wonder he's * nervous

give Mick that kind of abuse and lets see how well he does

:56::56: you must be on the windup here?

Caldwell our best defender? based on what a handful of good games at the tail end of last season? pish if he's our best defender then gift wrap the title and domestic cups to the huns right now.

Caldwell has been responsible for more defensive errors in the past two yewars than anyone, granted some of them when he was played out of position at RB but he's the liability and is responsible for the high profile errors that cost us.

Two own goals against Benfica being the perfect example, our entire back four have made errors but * me not on the level of Gary, so what he had a decent game against St. Mirren I could have had a decent game against St. Mikrren given the level of performance we put on display.

Sorry but Caldwell has to be more consistent (in terms of playing well) this coming season to win me over. Currently the only thing he's no one at is the size of his heid.

Caldwell at the top? You'd have to be daft to play him up there. I mean, I suppose I could see him as a DM in the middle... but *? The top?? What a strange question. Of course he belongs on the bottom, as even when he's in the middle it'd have to be as a DM -- and even DM is stretching his abilities.

    [/intentional misinterpretation]

Gary Caldwell has always been a potentially good footballer and it is good to see him in a position(in front of the defence) that is more suitable to his talents. Heart of a lion and a more committed Professional would be hard to find.

As for some of the unwarranted criticism, IMO, that he receives; bet he wouldn't get such a hard time if he was not Scottish, eh?

agree that big mick needs a better player playing along side him. Gary Caldwell is not celtic class simple ! his distrabution of the ball is can be good but can also be disastress the defensive side of his game is poor makes the odd good tackle but to be honest your taking chance with him at cb allways has a mistake in him. so for me bottom !!

I think mcmanus would benifet more from having a decent left back beside him rather then caldwell being dropped. GC has been puting in some great performances recently and i think its no coincidence micks drop in form came at the same time naylor started playing really pish! the amount of times he had to mop up his mistakes last season was incredible.

Keep caldwell, get shot of naylor.

to all the people criticising caldwell

noone is arguing caldwell hasn't made mistakes in the past. we all know that, but what we are saying is that the caldwell of old is not the player we have now. the improvement in his performances is very impressive and he is easily now our best defender.

    Correct :celt_2::celt_2::celt_2:
you've got to play the players that are on form and just now caldwell is playing his best football in a celtic shirt.

we are tryin to compete with the top clubs in europe in the CL correct ? caldwell may play half decent against * teams like st mirren but in the big games he * up ! if we are too seriously pose a threat against top clubs we must atleast have players of a similar quality ?
