I am tired of the way we are playing. Who agrees?

Now I am not having a go at WGS. Well done to the guy, he has brought us 3 titles in a row. But can we honestly say, hand on heart, that the rankers sides over the last few years have been any good? I say no.

As I say, I am tired, bored and I know that I am not alone in thinking this, sick of the way we are playing football. Our strategy seems no better than ranjurs under WGS. WGS hates to lose. It is safety first football. I dont think any of you out there can say differently. If you can, please I would love to hear your arguments.

Big Jock once said "I think it is important to win a match, but I think what is even more important is the manner in which you win."

We, as Celtic fans have all been brought up watching open, attacking football. If we concede 2 goals, we will score 3. Thats what I want to see!!!

The great teams we remember and the great teams we aspire to, all have played or play fast, flowing attacking football. No one remembers poor, negative teams....and if they do, they are looked on with repulsion(look at the huns last season)

I dont blame WGS, he has done as well as he could or can do. Like I dont blame players for playing bad or making mistakes. Take Caldwell. The man has came in for some serious slagging over last season. Its not his fault he is no good, the blame lies with WGS. He buys him, he picks him and he tells him what to do. Most of us on here will be poor footballers, but if Celtic approached you and asked you to play for them and earn 15 grand a week.....would you turn it down?

I suppose all I am trying to say is......this is not the Celtic I want to see......

    lol...2 games

As much as I love to see us win....I just want us to do it in the Celtic tradition.

I know we cant win every game 5 - 0 and I am not expecting that. I just cant stand watch the pedestrian football that we seem to have adopted.

I watched Falkirk pass rakers off the park on Sat. and if Falkirk had a striker of any worth, they would have humped them. The movment off the ball from Falkirk was a joy to watch at times....why cant we play that way???

Give it time its only the start of the season you cant expect them to play free flowing football straight away.

    I'll take a slightly different slant on things;

I've enjoyed the fact Strachan plucked some nutter from Poland and he's became one of the best keepers on the face of the planet and a cult hero to millions.

I've enjoyed the amazing turnaround in Aiden McGeady from teenage sand dancer to a genuine class winger and player of the year.

I've enjoyed the journey he's taken Mick from youth team no-hoper to captain of club and country.

I've enjoyed the transformation in the heavily maligned Caldwell into a genuine ball playing centre half that makes far less stupid mistakes and now as a pair with McManus surely Scotlands first 2 picks.

I've enjoyed the transformation in Paul Hartley from a mid-table goalscoring midfielder to a composed and hard working defensive lynchpin.

I've enjoyed the fact he's gave Barry Robson a chance to prove he's good enough for the highest level of football after treading water for so many years, a chance he's grabbed with both hands.

I've enjoyed the turning of a mid-table striker bought for peanuts that scored and worked hard in the SPL but that is now capable of 30+ goals and has scored the winner against the European Champions.

I've enjoyed watching Nakamura play as if he was a walking technique coaching manual and i've enjoyed every one of his free kicks. None more so than the 1 that won us the league against Killie, the 1 that kept us in the league last year against St Mirren and the 1 that beat Manchester United at Parkhead.

Most of all i've enjoyed where we're going as a club altogether. We've lowered the wage bill, brought in a lot of very talented young footballers, we play winning football and never give up to the final whistle and overall i'm just very happy with the past 3 years of being a Celtic fan. I'd urge any 'fan' that STILL to this very day moans about the way we play or the way our manager goes about his business to take a wee step back and have a look at the bigger picture. We're dominant in our league, we're progressing at a never before seen rate in Europe and we're doing it on a budget which is seeing us going from strength to strength off the field. Not to mention the fact we now have a training facility and youth academy to rival most.

Even the little things just now like the new advertising boards at Parkhead, the new scientific approach we've brought on board with regards to the playing surface, right down to the fact we now have club crests on our benches all make me chuffed to see my club is moving forward.

Aye...I agree with all that you have said....but I still say that the football we play for the most part is pretty dull. Nothing you have said has changed my mind on this.
You say all that but do not actually challenge my point about the way we play!!!!

Great post Hammer! Well In mate bout time some people that support the hoops take a reality check on some things.

Gercelt, yeah we werent the greatest on Sunday and yeah wasnt convincing but at the end of the day I thought we controlled the game all the way through the match limiting St Mirren to one good chance (great save by the holy one), If we scored early we would have probably ripped the Saints apart but we do struggle to get the 1st goal in some occasions and it is a problem but it is not one we cant overcome and if we need to graft out victories Im proud of them for having the fight and hunger to do so.

    Mon the Hoops! :50:

    Top class post mate.

There has been far more good than bad over the last 3 years, long way it continue.

So what we dont play like Barcelona, it could be worse the huns dont play like us.

I know it was only a pre-season game but the one against the Dutch side where we used 4-3-3 was the best I've seen us play in a long time. Sunday past we made things very difficult for ourselves. I'm willing to say its early in the season but I sure hope the "works" are oiled and running smoothly for the visit of the Huns - and Dundee aint gonna be a pushover!

i agree with the guy in some respects.

i hate the fact that when we kick off you'll notice that from the centre we pass the ball back to the full back who takes a touch and will then punt it towards Jan. every match...just watch out for it you'll see what i mean.

i think Strachan has spent the whole of pre-season focussing on passing so hes obviously thinking on parallel lines with you. after every match he talked about the use of the ball and the passing...he now has certain things in place so maybe now we will see a more passing-style Celtc.

Ry to the Bhoy I think everybody who watches Celtic doesnt need another game to see what you mean I hate the pass to Naylor so he can hopelessly punt the ball up the park to Jan but until he is told to stop we have to grit our teeth and get on with it, could be worse they arent costing us matches.

there are just some people who will always try to put a downer on things, and those who try to focus on the brighter side of life.

(and i'm not just talking about the difference between celtic n rangers fans)

Gercelt it seems like you're just up for a moan.

agree mate, i just think we play the wrong formation.

bit sickening when you can't say your opinion on your team, without getting told your anti-celtic or your no a true fan/ its only the first game of the season.

yes its only the first game of this season, but its the same way we were playing last season.

who was honestly happy with that ? rangers lost the league imo, similar to us in 03 and 05.

we should be playing a different formation imo, thats all.

Everything is great when the rose tinted glasses are on, so i'm taking them off for a second to agree with Gercelt in that i'm also tired of the way we play.
It's no surprise that the atmosphere at Celtic Park is as bad as it is when we have to watch uninspiring football, there is not much entertainment value for your money.
But you don't have to play entertaining football these days when you get results, its a results business.
We will get our exciting moments throughout the season and if we win the championship we will all be happy so we are going to have to sacrifice being entertained the way we expect for silverware at the end of the day.
