How long ago was that though? There’s a reason Rogic isn’t here anymore.

That would have been something to see live.

Mooy’s performances at Huddersfield were amazing considering the trash he had to play next to. Pritchard was the 10 in that team :56: * is league 1/championship at best. They would put 3 players on him and he’d still come away with the ball, fucken magician at times.

Person who will benefit most out of Mooy being here will be McGregor. Two pivots seems to be where we might go in the CL.

It was 4 years ago. That’s why I qualified in other posts, if he hasn’t lost his powers. He’s not a quick footballer in actual physical pace, but his mind is unbelievable at reading a game, so he doesn’t get punished for being slow. If he was fast he would have gone to the top of the game. As far as physicality, he’s really strong on the ball, he doesn’t get knocked off it and he loves a tackle.

His tackle on Griezmann was worth the price of admission.

McGregor will benefit in a couple of ways but I suspect the main beneficiaries will be Kyogo, Jota, Maeda and Abada. Mooy's eye for a pass is * lethal and once he gets the range of their runs...

You weren't inferring anything, you were implying, but I guess that went straight over your head...

It's amusing to me it appears to be my post that started all of this when I have been on record in here that I really rated Mooy and would have loved to have had him here after the world cup in Russia. But that was then, now I'd prefer we were looking to the future and not short term signings with no resale value to us. Now I'd rather have a younger guy (preferably tall, fast and physically imposing to counter some rather obvious deficiencies in the side) that Ange can mould so we can get good use out of them for several seasons and then make a profit on, over a guy that seems to have played a couple of dozen club games in the last 2 years.

This thread and the Ange thread should be locked just now. Brutal.

I don't see how resale value is relevant at all for a guy you are signing on a free transfer for starters and that also might immediately help you secure another title and qualification for Europe.......

I agree and also would rather a young lad that we could develop for the future. But, and it is a big but, if that player doesn’t exist, or is out of our reach, or doesn’t want to play here, or we have another player in mind and we can’t buy them for another year, then this is a stop gap that’s acceptable to me. It could be as simple as we wish to spend our dollars elsewhere in the squad this year. We won’t know until the window is closed.

We may not be paying a transfer fee but we'll be buying him with a sign on fee and his wages. And we won't be able to make any of that back through selling him.

The fact that he’s been in the Chinese league for the past two years feels like it should be a concern to me. Other than that, I’d be chuffed to sign him on a one year deal. He’s a good player with a lot of experience and would add to our depth.

Only went there to double premier league wages. Was on a reported £100k a week.

What I asked myself, if he signed for the zombies, how would I feel? I’d be proper worried that he’d make the difference. None of their signings this year or last year have made me feel that.

I believe it was in that original post that kicked off this * show that I mentioned the stop gap being the only reason this would make sense.

I also said I hoped Mooy would make me eat my words, and I still do, but I suspect it's just coming so soon after the McCarthy fiasco that I'm more worried than I'd normally be by this.

Seriously, having watched McCarthy this past year, the bloke isn’t fit to tell his jokes to Mooy, the difference in class is massive.

He’s a big upgrade on McCarthy and I think could be key in Europe, no doubting his ability it’s just at that age players can be hit and miss especially coming from the chinese league.

    Could be a masterstroke.

And yet an argument could be made that McCarthy has had a better career than Mooy...

I personally think it’s a absolute joke of a signing. Good luck having a pensioner pressing for 60+ minutes constantly.

Hope to be proven wrong, but I doubt it.

    He’s 31 not 41 :giggle1:

Though I reckon he might be more used in the sitting role and we’ll push Calmac up one or in next to Calmac when playing in Europe.

Yep absolutely, football can be a weird game at times. Just like Rogic has had a better career than Mooy, doesn’t make him a better player.

That's out of the question, McCarthy has won an FA Cup and a Scottish Premiership, whilst Mooy only has a single A-league title and a bunch of individual honours.
