It would make sense as I know there is interest from at least one club down here where talks have taken place with Benfica..

Any idea what our wages are like , think we mightve got them moved down a bit with Brown, Edourad etc,,, leaving think McGregor , Biton , Forrest might be up the top due to their lengths here and resigns

Unless it's something really daft like 50k a week, I'd be giving him what he wants 100%

He's going to have a lot of interest in the summer, and there's plenty of PL clubs willing to give him stupid money to get him to sign. If he wants to stay, then we can sell him for triple, or even quadruple, what we paid for him a year down the line, he's that talented.

I get that we might not want to disrupt the current wage structure too much (iirc I think Rogic is our highest paid player currently at 25k) but with CL money coming in, there's no excuse to low-ball with wages anymore.

    Thats how negotiations start.

    "I want 50k!!"

    Nae chance. Have jelly beans

Fine 40k! Etc and eventually they come to an agreement with a sign on bonus to bump the wage up if it doesn't fall in the structure. What a signing if he comes man. Imagine us not getting weakened at a summer window and also being allowed to spend with champions league secured. New types of players will be available to us now. Exciting times.

As far as I'm aware McGregor is our highest earner on 30k a week..

My auld neighbour who is pals with some agent (im taking this with a pinch of salt) says he told him that wolves were going to offer him 65k a week.
He wants 35k a week to stay here and were offering 30k max.

He also said if everton stay up, they might be looking to get ange as manager.

Probs one load of pish but that is what he was telling me yesterday.

No news saying that Jota told Benfica anything. I believe the rumours came from this news published by Jornal de Notícias: https://www.jn.pt/desporto/celtic-exerce-opcao-de-jota-e-schmidt-avalia-florentino--14819205.html

It says that Celtic have decided to exercise the buy option for Jota and (Celtic, not Jota) informed Benfica of such decision.

Abola (one of the 3 biggest sports newspapers in Portugal and the one historically more aligned with Benfica) posted this article 3 hours ago: https://www.abola.pt/nnh/2022-05-03/escocia-glasgow-esta-rendida-a-jota/939292

The last paragraph says the following (loose translation):
"To satisfy the fans they only need to convince Jota, on loan from Benfica, to stay. Celtic have an option to buy and are already negotiating with the Portuguese winger."

Wages for Jota and CCV were always going to be a stumbling block for us, but there’s plenty deadwood to get rid of to cover the wages.

Are they both demanding stupid money?
Depends on what they’re on now and what elsewhere might pay them I suppose…

… but we seem to have quite strict limits on salaries that once broken… are broken for good.

Glasgow's Celtic contracted with Benfica a purchase option for the pass of Jota, a 23-year-old forward loaned by the eagles earlier this season, and, A BOLA knows, the Scots have already made a decision on the subject: they will really go ahead with this option, which will involve the payment of 7.5 million euros to Benfica, for only 70 percent of the young striker's pass.

Celtic is practically assured of winning the championship and, yesterday, after UEFA confirmed the exclusion of Russian teams, it was equally certain that the Scottish champions will have direct entry into the group stage of the next Champions League.

a fact that helped the Glasgow club to decide to invest in the Benfica player. Celtic have already made their intentions reach Benfica and have already started contract negotiations with the player.

If with SAD incarnated for a long time the terms of the possible deal were agreed, now it remains to convince Jota to remain in Scotland.

Despite still sharing some opinions in Scottish football, Jota is having a very good season (see related news). He has 12 goals and 12 assists, in 37 games played, and has been a key player in a championship that Celtic is close to conquering.

Jota has a contract with Benfica until the summer of 2024.

He is already worth double the option to buy fee. If we sign him he will be our next £20m player.

Load of * imo. If it was 35k a week he wanted i think we would have given him it. Even for both parties not to meet someweher in the middle would be mad.
The difference is too small for a deal not to be negotiated.

Would be brilliant to get this wrapped up before the season is even over.

Neither club is the one I'm on about either..

I think he'll sign for what it's worth..

Guaranteed game time whereas I don't think he would be down here..

    Champion's league football..

Has a good thing here and a good season or two could have his pick of club's still..

Yip, just that CCV is on £65k a week at Spurs, and doesn’t want to drop wages…

That Daniel Levy is a right tight * there’s no chance he’s handed a guy with 5 first team appearances 65k a week.
