The American FCC just came down on american ISPs monitoring and controlling internet access to p2p networks. Weak judgement though they should have fined the companies.

Virgin are probably picking random people to send these letters out too.

because i download music EVERY DAY and like 50 songs a day. and i've had no letter at all.

Firstly get Limewire to * off your PC, its the biggest reason for viruses in the * world, also torrents are extremely dodgy so if you are gonna use them you need to download PeerGuardian 2 from Phoenix Labs PeerGuardian 2 and run it whenever you are going to be downloading DO NOT DOWNLOAD WITHOUT IT!!!!!!!!

if your network have contacted you about it you have no doubt downloaded and installed a game or something with an alert tracker in it and will prob get yourself a lifetime ban from all ISP's in fact im surprized you have only received a letter warning as most just get a disconnection notice.

was the letter a general letter or a letter stating that they know what your doing,,if general letter i wouldent take much notice

and if its a "we know what your doing"letter,,change your provider ,nosey *,,and dont let them tell u you cant as u have a contract,,you may have a contract but this rule wasent a part of it so they have changed the contract not you

Get yourself on some private trackers, it's the public ones such as Mininova and Pirate Bay that are monitored, not to mention full of infectious files.

I read the title and thought you had recevied a letter from 'a' virgin..ahh well :52:

Seriously though, from what it sounds like I definetely d/l more than yourself easily 100's of GB's per month and i'm assuming my housemates do the same we're with Virgin and the only thing they've doen to us so far is to send a letter threatening to implement a fair usage policy on us, they haven't done it yet <touch wood> I wouldn't worry about the letter but I would shop around and get a different ISP.

Ok, thanks for all the advice guys, still not sure what route to take though...

Is there much hassle involved in changing ISP or is it all fairly simple? Also, anyone got any good recommendations if I was to move. Preferably a company that doesn't follow their users about on the internet like this lol

My mate swears by Eircom. There's sites you can put your postcode in and it'll tell you what's available in your area. I can't think of one off top of my head just now, but I'm sure someone will know.

    pmsl.

if they send me a letter though, im gonna go to town with them.

    * they think they are in all honesty, there a * company.

don't even get sky * one on there * wee box, i remember last year, celtic vs shakhtar was on sky one, and i couldn't see it, all because of virgin.

had to listen to it on Clyde 1 with peter martin, when donati scored, it was legendary.
