Did he come out and say he wanted to go to Hibs for first team football and not sign for Celtic? Just wondering

    https://m.independent.ie/regionals/...sign-sligo-rovers-striker-kenny-41205634.html
Sligo Rovers’ Johnny Kenny is expected to sign for Celtic in the coming days.

Hibernian were also showing huge interest in the Republic of Ireland U19’s striker, however it is understood that Celtic are the frontrunners to get Kenny’s signature with a fee of €150,000 with potential add ons for Rovers.

The teenager has been of massive interest since making his senior debut with Rovers last season.

Kenny had been a guest at Hibs for their league game with Dundee back in December as both Hibs and Celtic battled for the striker’s signature but it’s understood Celtic have come out on top.

The Riverstown native and son of Rovers’ 1994 FAI Cup winner Johnny signed with the Bit O’Red in January 2021.

The teenager featured prominently in Liam Buckley’s side last season, scoring 11 goals in 33 matches as Rovers finished third in the SSE Eirtricity Premier Division and guaranteed European football this year.

The local has a €150,000 release clause.

Meanwhile, Andre Wright has signed for AFC Telford for the rest of the National League North season. The news was announced at the weekend.

With the departure of the 25 year old and the expected move of Kenny to Celtic, Sligo Rovers’ manager Liam Buckley will have to get two new strikers at least.

Hope this goes through. Our youth system/b team has not produced a striker capable of making the step up in far too long. This boy along with Vata and Dawson, all pushing each other on under the guidance of Tommy Mac and Ange, is what you want to see. Go for it young man

I have to laugh at myself. I saw the title of this thread and misread it thinking Johnjoe Kenny and I am saying to myself * no you have to be kidding me. Then I open the thread and its the young Sligo striker John Kenny. I would not get my hopes up too high but in fairness Liam Scales looks like he will become a solid squad player for us so who knows maybe Kenny can do the same.
I will say this the League of Ireland may well be a decent source of young players in future years with the new post brexit rules meaning no promising Irish players can leave till after they turn 18 that means the best of them like Kenny will already have had some first team experience in the League of Ireland before they move. Motherwell themselves have signed the promising Bohemians midfielder Ross Tierney in this current window. St Mirren of course before that signed Jamie McGrath who had played with St Patricks Athletic for a couple of years as well as Dundalk. While they also signed Conor McCarthy from Cork City whom he played for for a few years.

I feel like we have one of these signings every other window.

What's the deal with this one, any good? I get the need for development signings but they get rather tedious when 1 in every 10 sees adequate game time.

For me regarding the availability of players and what we are offering no spl team wants our prospects. Clear over two/three seasons.

I just watched a video of him and can’t believe he’s only 18! He looks really strong and composed for that age, no fear at all.

If he kicks on with us like he has for Sligo we could have a player on our hands I think.

Would like to see him train with us for now and do pre season before going out on loan for 6 months.
